Quote
June 10, 2009) All open issues have been resolved regarding the proposed Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz fight on August 22, 2009 in Houston , Texas .

DiBella Entertainment and Golden Boy wrapped up negotiations today and tied up all loose ends for the fight- including the agreed upon weight of 138.5 lbs.

“I told Paulie to lay off his Grandma’s pasta and eat one less cannoli,” said Lou DiBella about Malignaggi dropping an extra pound or two. “Paulie is confident of his speed and boxing ability and is prepared to win in the lion’s den of Houston .”

“This is a fight between two guys looking to prove something. We are both coming of losses in big fights and we are both coming in hungry. Expect fireworks,” said Malignaggi.

Whats your predictions? Im backing Diaz.

Paulie don't have the power to trouble Juan Diaz and although he is pretty slick I can't see him winning. Diaz is pretty explosive espicially at the start of a fight and many other big names would have folded in how he took the fight to JMM. Its a good match up seeing as both fighters are at the same career level.

Diaz will be all over him like a cheap suit. Can see a stoppage between 6 & 9.

Diaz all the way. Paulie can run for only so long. A late stoppage for Juan.

The form dictates that Diaz should win big but it will be interesting to see if Paulie's any sharper now he's left McGirt.

Indeed. Strange fight for Paulie cos it's a bit of a no-win. Fair enough if he was dropping down to 135 for a belt or Diaz was coming up but 138.5?! If he struggled against Ricky, he'll certainly struggle against Diaz

I will go against the grain and back Paulie for this one! Will be a fairly interesting fight to watch IMO.

Diaz to knock him out in the late rounds or Paulies corner will rescue him.
