Abdulaev victorious in return!

By Alexey Sukachev

Sydney Olympics welterweight gold medalist Mohamad Abdulaev (16-3, 12 KOs) looked predictably rusty after three and a half years of hiatus, but still scored a six-round unanimous decision over Russian journeyman Sergey Starkov (16-53-2, 2 KOs) yesterday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This bout, fought at junior middleweight limit, headlined a small card, promoted by Favzul Munavvar boxing club. Abdulaev, now 35, is best known for his loss to Miguel Cotto in a rematch of their earlier collision at Olympic competition.

Telesco to return!

On July 16th former light heavyweight title challenger, David Telesco (29-6-1, 24 KOs) will once again step inside the squared circle under the Star Boxing banner when he takes on William Gill (9-23, 7 KOs) in an eight round light heavyweight affair. The card is being held at the Hilton Rye Town hotel, located in the New York City suburb of Rye, NY, and is ten minutes east of White Plains, NY in Westchester County. Telesco has been in- active since 2005. The undercard will be announced shortly. For tickets($40-$100) call 718-823-2000.

Abdulaev is 35 and is not a threat to any of the current beltholders. He was a very promising amateur that never made it count in the pro game.

Teleso is 41 now and has lost to anyone at or very near world level.

It's a shame that they've both decided to come out of retirement after this length but they're not the first and won't the last.
