This Interview was done a few minutes after beating Kessler for his Title,so he just wanted the Dust to settle before making any comments.
He eventually spoke on his future a couple of days later and said he wants to Unify the Belts and would like to add Froch's WBC belt,as well as take on Bute If they can work it out.
Agree or disagree,at least he wants to face Champions at the earliest possible opportunity than waste several years defending his WBA belt against substandard mandatories.
Love him or hate him,he is not ducking any Prime fighters. He actually relishes the opportunity to face Prime fighters or Unbeaten Champions with good records.
He does not Trash talk his oppponents and he's a breadth of fresh air to Boxing.

Yes he is respectful etc etc.

But i find him a bit boring to watch and a bit boring to listen to.

Nice nice, guy nice skills - but not really entertaining.

I like the guy personally. Very unusual style, but very technically gifted and a good boxing brain. More offensive than your usual technical fighter and I thought he was impressive against kessler. He totally befuddled the fave with his switching and quick hands. Just needs to watch the 'billygoat' headbutts, ouch

Its not Ward who needs to watch the 'billygoat' routine. Its the referee's and his future opponents. No doubt he'll keep using the head as an extra weapon until a referee makes him cut it out. It worked for years for Holyfield.

He won't be using that head like movement against people like Abraham and Froch, Froch has an uppercut that'll have him hit the canvas if he comes in like that. Abraham also has underestimated hand speed when he's in range and throwing bombs so again, a prob for the billygoat routine.

Ward's probably the best of all of the fighters in the tournament, if Dirrel had power and put on a better show against Froch then I'd say he's arguably the best fighter in the tourney.

Styles make fights though, and there's still some surprises/upsets to come in the tournament no doubt.

Beaten the best and now 'working his way down'...Huh?

Am I slow when I wonder why do some guys here think he is respectful towards other boxers? Kessler may have been considered the fav before the tournament by some people - not by me - but I think considering the prospect of fighting Froch and Abraham as 'working his way down' is delusional. I like his boxing but I don't like the guy. Gimme any of the others but Dirrell any time.

If you were bored by that Fight against Kessler then you should have been more bored with the Dirrel/Froch fight them.

The Kessler fight was exciting, the Crowd was on Its feet for most of the Fight and Ward let his hands go.He put on a clinic against a Tournament favourite, despite Kessler having Double the fights Ward had,he was made to look foolish.
Kessler was given his worst Beating ever and from the 5th round onwards, his corner could not come up with any ideas to halt the onslaught of shots from Ward.
He was complaining he could not see,coz punches were coming from different angles like Othordox,Southpaw, short rights, straight lefts and Kessler simply could not get out of the way.
His corner wanted to stop the fight in the 7th but he wanted to continue.
In his previous 20 fights,Ward had never head butted anyone,so It was just a one off.
Expect to see him improve his Game and win more fights without any more headbuts.
Even though there are guys in the Tournament who can Upset him, technically he's the most difficult guy to figure out coz of his slippery style and switch hitting.

Not sure, if you meant me with 'if you were bored'. Didn't write that anywhere and also not between the lines. In fact, I wrote that Kessler wasn't the fav for me. Ward's win was no upset for me, nor was I upset. He's a brill boxer and good to watch. While not having the same power in one shot as CF or AA yet(!), I think his accumulative power is great and he will develop his game and also take people out by ko'ing them.
Kessler was outclassed before the headbutting; exactly that's why I take issue with it. It's like taking a stick in addition to beating up a guy who's already weaker anyway.
Just to make myself really clear; inside the ring, Ward is a class act and getting better. Wouldn't surprise me if he won the tourney but also not if he got dropped the next fight; each fighter here's able to do that on the night. Outside the ring, it's just a few things he said which I didn't like but that's my own taste, opinion and also due to my own cultural heritage. Where I come from we don't ram personal believes down people's throats, especially not after headbutting them; again, this is just my own ethics, which are not worse or better than Wards. My family in the States would not comprehend me really and be on his side, if I asked them. Be sure!
No, this wasn't a rant, just a clarification coz I appreciate your opinion, which differs from many others here. hope that's cool. May Ward win all fights, if he's the better man.  Smiley

^^^My responce was not to you,It was to Red who said he found him to be Boring to watch.
If that is his opinion then so be it.As they say you can't please everyone .
Now getting back to issue of his Spirituality, let me say that he's not the first and certainly not the last Athelete to be very open about his Faith.
I guess Its an American thing since Roy Jones jr pretty much says the same things as Ward although not as Frequently as Ward does.
I'm not gonna spend all Day mentioning how many times Roy Jones Jr has said similar things ,but Its just the way certian Cultures are.
Manny is a little bit similar but he does it in a different way.As they say what ever floats your Boat.To Andre Ward he does not say It to Ram it down other people throats,he just says it to be True to himself coz that is what he really is.
There is really such a long List of Atheletes both American and even non-American who are as open with their Spirituality as Andre Ward.
I am a believer myself and will never begrudge anyone for being themselves, especially when Faith becomes such an Important aspect of one's life.
I hope I have explained it to be the best of my knowledge without being disrespectful .
