this isnt looking good.someone should call intervention he seems to be throwing it all away for booze.how can someone start training then run off with buddies and booze it up and listen to everybodies advice to retire.was it your booze buddies that got you the championship? no when they were out boozing you were training. if he wants to win again he needs to leave these guys behind and do what makes him a champ.if he retires now after annuoncing that he's coming back and quitting after 2 wks thats pretty bad. his fans waited patiently for almost a year if this is it,its better him going out losing to pacquiao than losing to the bottle.he should have just retired then rather than string everybody along for a year.i hope i am wrong ,i just thought the champ in hatton would come to the forefront and he would have the pride of a champ and come back.i didnt think the pacquiao defeat would take his boxing soul.that being said,if he dont have the heart for it then its better he get out.i just thought he had more pride.

I think we should wait and see. I mean maybe he is out every night downing endless pints of Guinness, and thinking of giving up boxing, but it is up to him how he lives his life.
I for one would love to see him come back and have one last fight, but only if he REALLY wants it! Otherwise think he should stick to his promotions company and build that up.
So what I am saying is the man has provided me with many nights of awesome entertainment and I am grateful for that, if this is the end of his career, I wish him well!
If all this is just a publicity stunt, well, I wish him well as well, no skin of my nose!
I am sure we will hear something soon, one way or the other.
Just my 2 pence,
Chris

I think by now we can safely put this down to another publicity stunt. It's simple enough, either he's planning another fight or he isn't. It doesn't take much to let everyone know whether he is or not. His dad, Ray, has said he's perplexed like everyone else and 'hasn't had chance to talk to him'. Yeah, right, like we believe that! In the age of mobile phones? There's no mention of any of it on Brandhatton website. It seems to be just another cynical tactic to encourage enthusiasm towards what has rapidly become a very tedious and boring subject. Either come back or stay retired, Ricky. Wake us up and tell us when you've decided. End of

maybe rick doesnt know what to do because he cant seem to find something that fulfilled him as boxing did?
people seem to be able to judge very quickly from the outside, imagine boxing for as many years as ricky and doing so many great things in your career?
he is probably thinking he can still do it but then thinks of the pacman defeat but then thinks one more go, then back to no he cant do it concentrate on the promotions etc etc.
the point im making is he is the guy who had the whole country behind him when he went out to fight floyd mayweather and manny pacman, yes he may have come back a loser but its seeming he is trying to relive it, but maybe his time has gone.
this is the bad part of boxing imo and i do think ricky should retire completely, you cannot be half and half at his level of boxing.

IQ. Well said mate. In boxing you go very fast from being at the pinnacle of your career in terms of performance and experience to being too old, to slow to do what you could. Unfortunately the only way fighters tend to find out is when they are in the ring and it comes crashing down around them. It must be unbelieveably hard for a blood and guts fighter with great heart to suddenly not have it anymore. I know that part of it is his own doing through the lifestyle he lead but when he was younger he got away with all that. But now that it has caught up with him along with time there must be a feeling of desperation and hopelesness that goes with that. I'd love if he could retire, settle down into whatever makes him happiest next to being in the ring, cut down on the drinking and became the carefree Ricky Hatton(first person) again. But it doesn't look like it's going that way.

The ricky hatton we know now is worlds apart from the man in this video. Hatton is one of my idols, but I can't pretend to suport the same "two men" the same way. edit--- I'm still aRicky Hatton fan and I don't want that to be misunderstood.

It's easy to forget now, but back in those days when it was Ricky and Billy, Blue Moon and Mexican tassled shorts, eh? Before all the $Millions came rolling in and the celebrity stuff. Never once referred to himself as Ricky Hatton in that clip did he? Ah, nostalgia!

Ricky Hatton offered Juan Manuel Marquez showdown By David Anderson 10/03/2010 Ricky Hatton is being offered a showdown with Juan Manuel Marquez to rekindle his passion for boxing. Hatton's US promoters Golden Boy are alarmed by the Hitman's claim he may quit because he has grown disillusioned. Golden Boy chief Richard Schaefer said: "Marquez really wants Ricky Hatton, and so I'll talk to Ricky's people. The Hitman will hold a press conference in the coming days to confirm the end of his career after making a dramatic U-turn on a planned comeback. Brother, Matthew, has revealed how the 31-year-old’s loss of passion for the sport has ultimately convinced him to retire. If Ricky wanted this it would give him from say now till July to get his weight to a reasonable level, say 11/11.5 st then a 2 month training camp for the fight?

Don't think will happen, it's game over for ricky if u ask me, I was all for him coming back as long as he was up for it, but to think of him staying off the booze till September is a joke, he's done a couple of weeks in the gym and he's having secound thoughts, time to call it a day

Matthew Hatton has fuelled speculation that his brother Ricky is going to retire by admitting "the spark wasn't there" when he returned to training.
The Hitman proposed comeback was plunged into doubt this week when it was revealed he has not resumed training after a short break in Tenerife - and is still believed to be on the holiday island.
Hatton's manager and father Ray has admitted he "is in the dark" about his son's future, but brother Matthew has given the strongest hint yet that a glittering career may well be over.
"He never said anything to me, but I could tell when I saw him in the gym that the spark wasn't there," he told the Tameside Advertiser.
"He said he was going to fight again and he believed that he would. But everyone is entitled to change their mind.
Dangerous "It is a very, very hard sport and if your heart's not in it, it can be even more dangerous."
Hatton is said to been affected by the departure of trainer and friend Lee Beard, who has gone to work in America.
But until this week, he was expected to make a return to the ring this summer, over a year after being knocked out cold in two rounds by pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Juan Manuel Marquez had been mooted as an opponent in what many expected to be the Hitman's farewell to his army of fans.
Skysports.com columnist and former world cruiserweight champion Glenn McCrory, a friend of Hatton's, has this week called for him to end his 47-fight career that saw him win world titles at two different weights

No shame in walking away from it all now he knows deep down he is finished and if your not right 100% mentally or physically this sport is very unforgiving. I look forward to him announcing it soon so that he can continue his role as a good up and coming promoter.
