Bradley-Maidana is off

WBA interim super lightweight champion Marcos Maidana pulled out of his fight against undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley today. The public news conference scheduled for Tuesday at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif. is canceled. Gary Shaw, who co-promotes Bradley with Thompson Boxing Promotions, received a call from Eric Gomez, Vice President/Matchmaker of Golden Boy Promotions, Maidana’s co-promoter, moments ago informing him that Maidana was pulling out of the fight. “Eric told me Maidana missed his flight to the U.S. and later in the same conversation told me Maidana’s back was still injured and that he would not be fighting Timmy on July 17,” said Shaw. “Obviously Maidana’s back was not getting any better and a call to us last week from Team Maidana would have been the professional thing to do. But HBO and Agua Caliente are standing behind Timmy and his July 17 date, and I expect to announce Timmy’s new opponent soon.”

Maidana withdrew in the middle of April with the back injury and then renegotiated to get the fight extended to July.

Personally i believe if Maidana somehow beat Bradley (unlikely) that Khan would never fight him in a million years.

Secondly, if Maidana was defeated by Bradley, you'd hear that as the excuse as not to face him "He's not on my level" from Khan zzz.

So whilst dissapointed this fight is off for now, im not crying about it.

I didn't know till now that Holt lost in February when he gave up after 6 rounds against Mabuza.

And Torres hasn't fought in over a year since his horrible comeback fight at LMW!!!

What the fook has happened to those two!

they got a decent cheque, bought a big TV and 22" rims and are now 'made'.

They've been blunted by loot  Grin

I know Holt was in trouble with the law after trafficing for his manager but that was still a shocking loss. He didn't look hungry against Bradley either after dropping him. I felt he could have outboxed him if he'd only upped his work rate.

Torres is a massive puncher and better than Maidana.

They're both a waste of talent.

Still hoping they re-schedule this.  I really like the attention that Maidana is generating.  Reminds of  Pacquiao Undecided
