W***** wins EBU purse bid

Promoter Frank W***** today won the purse bids to stage Darren Barker’s mandatory European Middleweight Title defence against Matthew Macklin. W*****, who earlier this week won the purse bids for Ryan Rhodes’ European Light-Middleweight title defence against Lukas Konecny, came first with a bid of 125,600 Euros with Barker’s promoter Hennessy Sports coming second and Brian Peter Promotions third. W***** said, “I’m delighted to have won the rights to stage this fight and will announce a date and venue shortly.”

Hennessy Sports shite yet again.Wonder if W***** will try to sign Rhodes and Barker after he's put on a good promotion for them. Don't know why but W***** fighters seem to get alot more attention in the press.  Smiley

It will be interesting to see where W***** decides to stage this one.  He obviously fancies it to do big numbers somewhere to come in and outbid Hennessy for it.

I understand from a previous thread that Macklin has left Hatton promotions and was heading to GBP.

Is that not right?

It's funny how Macklin finally agrees to a fight with Barker after Barker looked terrible in his last fight. Its similar to Chisora and Tyson Fury. Whilst Tyson was blasting everybody out of there Chisora didnt want nothing to do with him, after the Mcdermott fight where all Fury's shots were just arm punches, Chisora's calling him out in every interview.

Does anyone know of any problems in the BArker camp for the last fight? I'd laugh if he's luring Macklin into a false sense of security.

After seeing barkers last performance, Macklin wears him down and stops him late for me!

A convincing win over Macklin will prove to be Barker's breakthrough. I think he is too fresh, too sharp and too ambitious for Matt.
