Well I definitely see that as a personal kick in the teeth for Steven Gerrard at England level. Steven Gerrard 90 England games and an illustrious club career at the top level, snubbed as captain. Scott Parker 11 games and 2 decent years in a long average at best career named captain.
I would be giving my euro participation some serious thought if I was him.
Gerrard is still a good player but not played for England in 16 months and at 31 he is on borrowed time . Gerrard isn't a vocal captain a bit like Ferdinand and Owen. Becks and Terry had a presence and players respond to it look at how England fared when Gerrad was captain in the qualifier losses in Euro 2008 and the last World Cup.

You can't be surprised can you? even he didn't know if he'd be in charge for their next game

Not surprised, im amazed! another 30/40 million to get rid of another manager! Until the likes of Terry,Lampard,Drogba as booted out no manager will stand a chance of moving the club forward.

I feel sorry for AVB he is a good manager who had a long term plan to restructure the club going forward. His only crime was to dare to drop the likes of Lampard, Cole, Terry and Drogba the typical Chelsea rent boy clique who think they are the heart beat of the club even though they are over 30 and facing limited time at the club. The Russian is a complete knob head he treats Managers like shit. Chelsea have had many world class coaches but what chance do they have of bringing in new ideas and new younger players when the mainstays have long lucrative contracts and have so much influence on younger players and club's hierarchy.

I don't agree with player power but he was out of his depth. Little experience and the football he had them playing was dire.

Nah mate, win or lose today we still to play city yet..... Even with us being 2 points behind or 5 as it is at the moment we still in with a great shout. Obviously prefer to be in front but given the team we got compared to city, sir Alex is a legend getting us into the position we are in!

Either way considering the injuries we have had we've done really well.

He had enough experience to win a UEFA Cup and build a good team at Porto. AVB had already been under the Mourinho regime at Chelsea and probably knew how certain players had influence with the Russian and the clubs heirachy. I'm sure AVB would have loved to have signed Hulk and got rid of Lampard and shed a few others to bring in the young players he needed. The problem is that Terry and Lampard are a bit like Raul and Guti were at Real Madrid nothing but arse licking shop stewards who whinge and moan when things aren't to there liking.

He inherited a very good team at Porto in what is essentially a Mickey Mouse league and Steve McLaren has taken a team to the UEFA Cup Final. What isn't up for dispute is that fact that Chelsea's squad is aged, creaking and in need of an overhaul. In that respect he might consider himself unlucky to have taken over that set of players but if he really was a top level coach then he'd have got more out of them than he has. They've been woeful.
