Only Fools and Horses writer Sullivan dies

Saturday 23 April 2011

'Only Fools and Horses' writer John Sullivan has died at the age of 64, following a short illness.

Sullivan also wrote 'Citizen Smith' and 'Roger Roger'. His latest work 'Rock & Chips' is due to be broadcast on BBC One next week.

BBC Director General Mark Thompson said: "John had a unique gift for turning everyday life and characters we all know into unforgettable comedy."

"His work will live on for years to come. We will miss him and we send our condolences to his family."

BBC Head of Comedy Mark Freeland said: "No one understood what made us laugh and cry better than John Sullivan."

"He was the Dickens of our generation. Simply the best, most natural, most heartfelt comedy writer of our time."

What tragic news! the guy was a genius and wrote some of the best comedies I'm ever likely to see.

RIP John you deserved a knighthood.

I got into OFAH pretty late but I've only just starting to realise this dude is a British legend.

Great shame he died the British public are indebted to his genius work he did with OFAH. There will never be a comedy series that will touch peoples hearts like OFAH it ran for so long and never got boring at all. The chandelier crashing to the floor episode was hilarious and when they did the Frog's legacy and to Hull and Back were really funny.

Great clip AndyE.. I love the way Del even laughs himself, halfway through the scene.
