Mate of mine works for the MOD in Woolwich, the Military Police were telling him today there was 24 police against several hundred rioters.
My area of Medway had some copy cat attacks last night, I am a Youth Worker in the area but even i cannot begin to justify these actions. Busy day at work for me!

genuinly support this... sick of it now.
The police are tied by PC laws, its like even the rioters (yes rioters not protesters) have more rights than a hardworking shop owner
Its crazy how you have to abide by laws and rules even when the enemy are clearly not. Our troops at war are not allowed to shoot first so therefore if they see Taliban planting land mines they cannot do anything but watch unless shot at!!!!! CRAZY WORLD

This is of course just another product of the Blair years, where the villains and drugs dealers have roamed freely with total impunity, reigning supreme over the hand-wringing wet brigade of senior Police Officers who now infest the higher echelons of every Force (oh sorry, we now have to call it the Police Service, NOT Force). There was some Deputy Commissioner on telly this morning and he could've become an immediate national hero. All he had to say was that as of today, we're gonna take back the streets and enforce the rule of law, using troops, water cannons, rubber bullets, whatever means are necessary. Any rioters from now on can expect to receive serious injury in their pursuit, maybe even life threatening. We've had enough of this and it won't be tolerated any longer. From hereon it's a 'slay 'em in the streets policy'. What did he actually say? "We intend to work with the community and will consider all means whilst going forward" What? Oh, right, half a dozen clichés and some popular soundbites in a transparent attempt to hide the fact you're clueless, and just trying to regain some popular media opinion then? I give up! IQ

There's already talk of plans being made for it to kick off in Southampton tonight. If it kicks off there it will take about 10 mins for Pompey to follow suit.

Unfortunately this is not allowed, what does tear gas do it doesn't kill does it just make your eyes and lungs sting, water cannons if we had any but looks like we would have to ship these in. Bonters is right our government now and before under Mr Happy Blair have gone soft these scum know the police are powerless, our politicians spineless and the justice system f***ing useless. We need the police to be able to say F*ck it and be allowed to use force and weapons against these mobs. They are ruining peoples homes, livelyhoods, communities and do not deserve a softly softly approach.

Just seen an interview with Boris Johnson in Clapham. He was surrounded by people with Brooms and wheel barrows ready to help with the clean up. What was starkly obvious was that the vast majority of thugs that caused the trouble were black and the vast majority of people ready to help with the clean up are white . That is a fact not racist.

Its all about context though. Clapham is hardly the most deprived area of London and has a fairly large white middle class population. Its unfair to blame it on black people on the basis of the scene in one district of London.

Ii is hard work to comment on this as we now live in a society where we do get called racist for making statements of truth, regardless of demographics the fact remains that in Clapham what essemk said was true, I cant see how it can be taken in any other context?

If you take the pictures of the people rioting in Tottenham where the majority of the images came from initially showing the people from there rioting next to the people living in Clapham cleaning up (without the individuals causing the trouble there being seen) it causes a distorted picture. I'm not some schmuck who says someone is racist for mentioning that someone is black. I just think its important to be clear that it wasn't just black people rioting and won't just be white people clearing up. I doubt there are bus loads of white people not resident in Tottenham heading over with a broom, people are sorting out their own bits of town.
