If you take the pictures of the people rioting in Tottenham where the majority of the images came from initially showing the people from there rioting next to the people living in Clapham cleaning up (without the individuals causing the trouble there being seen) it causes a distorted picture.

I'm not some schmuck who says someone is racist for mentioning that someone is black.  I just think its important to be clear that it wasn't just black people rioting and won't just be white people clearing up.  I doubt there are bus loads of white people not resident in Tottenham heading over with a broom, people are sorting out their own bits of town.

The racism comment was not aimed at you by the way, and I totally agree it is not an exclusive black/white thing either. But the pictures are painting a thousand words which I think are worrying for community trust and relations

No worries mate, I know it wasn't.  That's the point I was making really that I would hope the pictures used represent the situation fairly and don't put an unnecessary slant on things.

I think the media have a huge responsibility here for sure. Also with social media now and the fact pretty much everyone has access to a video camera we are not just seeing what the media want us to see, we are seeing everything as it unfolds

David Cameron and his smug ho ray henry mob who have spat in the faces of the lower classes are now starting to feel what its like what people act out of revenge against the system he props up. I hate seeing all this carnage across London and across the country but its time the Government saw just what they have contributed to a loss generation and a broken society.

I agree with a lot of the views and opinions on here...

I think the biggest problem (and this has been the case in recent UK history) is that these kids feel absolutely no connection to their environment. Put simply, you would not destroy what you truly love.

It has been empirically proven time and time again that people will nurture and cultivate an environment (or any other aspects / aterfacts) that they have personally invested in...you only have to read Robert Cialdini's book "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion" to understand what's going on right now across England...Cialdini scientifically breaks down how to influence collective unity and how to generate rebellion and anarchy...

The best time to work with these kids is when they're in nursery. Influence them, cultivate a sense of pride in their environment, a sense of esteem and pride, get them to personally invest in their environments, from planting trees to small-scale projects that can inspire their creative energies...continue to develop this spirit throughout their childhood and into adolescence...this is not just fancy thinking, because there are cultures, villages, towns, cities and countries who have imprinted this mindset into their youth...

But instead, we live in a soul-less society where it's basically everyone for themselves, with no cultivation of any form of connection between individuals and their environment, with no real sense of collective community. So, given these principles and patterns of human behaviour, it's no real suprise that these kids don't give a damn about their environment and are looting and destroying the very places that they live.

You think these riots are politically motivated and the cause lies at Camerons feet?

I acknowledge your point lemon,

But I don't think planting a tree erases a drunken mother and a father than sporadically turns up and slaps her about, before clearing off out to sell weed and sit in the social club all day.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

If they see swearing, violence, complete disregards for anything and anyone from their family and peers - then they've got no chance. And then when their idols rap about facebook and knocking people out, "brap brap brap" and all that cack that glorifies it then that's just the cherry on the cake.

If they can't play football or rap, they're fooked.

Its the Condems that have cut jobs, cut funding to local authorities who have closed down youth centres, day centres and created a state of hopelessness amongst young people. How many back to work schemes and retraining facilities are in these communties that have seen savage cuts. Tottenham saw a £41 million deficit in its funding this year that saw a massive slash in local services and then see the cuts in George Osbourne and David Camerons constituants.
The truth is Cameron and co can't help what background they come from and the privlege that comes from it but they should realise that they have destroyed working class areas and left them on the scrap heap. The Tories have a long history of f***ing over working class people and now people just want to stand up and do mindless acts of arson, violence and crimes just to rebel against the system. Its sad that all this crime is targeted against business people and homeowners who have done nothing wrong but its just a vaccum of hopelessness amongst young people with no hope for there futures.

So you think that the feral youth that have been rioting the last few days were upstanding members of the community 18 months ago, do you imagine they were all in jobs and staring down the barrel of glittering careers in the City? What has happened in the last few days is complete criminality and would/could have happened under any government

This has gone way to far

Police , public go in and go in hard

Manchester kicking off big time in city centre.

Only 6.45 not gonna get any easier

Communities need to stand there ground and protect there homes.  Police can't cope.

First sign of little b@stards anywhere near me intent on causing trouble will be getting baseball bat around there chops
