Legend Albert Finney to co-star in Bond flick

According to the Daily Mail he joins fellow Brits Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and Ralph Fiennes, as well as Spaniard Javier Bardem, in what could be the most talented cast in the history of the franchise.

Finney, 75, will play a high ranking intelligence official, with powers that the Mail speculates include supervisory duties over M, played by Dench.

M, of course, is in turn the intelligence officer charged with keeping watch over Craig's Bond, however futile the effort. Bardem has been confirmed as one of the villains in the film, while speculation also has Fiennes squaring off against 007.

One of entertainment's most decorated stars, Finney's won multiple BAFTAs, Golden Globes and an Emmy; been nominated for five Academy Awards, but has yet to take home an Oscar.

He has some experience in espionage films, with his participation in the Bourne series and, back in 1967, Gumshoe, when he played a private eye.

They've got a great cast this time round. I really, really hope that it's more Casino Royale and less like that heap of crap they turned out the last time!

They brought back Michael G. Wilson(Cubby Broccoli's stepson) as producer for the first time since Goldeneye for Casino Royale and I feel that was positive. I think that the constant changing of scriptwriters in order to stay contemporary can sometimes be more damaging than productive.

I don't get the hate for Quantum of Solace. It was action packed as any Bond film should be. Casino Royale took it's time to grow on me. I just don't think Bond films should be too story orientated. They are famous for their action and that's what they should all be about. That's one of the reasons why I didn't think much of Goldeneye. That, and the fact that Brosnan was a poor Bond and Sean Bean was a shite Bond villain. Oh, and what was the point in showing that cool BMW when it didn't do fook all?  Does anybody like Daniel Craig as Bond? For me, he blows Brosnan out of the water, easily. The best since Moore.

I thought Brosnan was half decent when he was given a good script, like Goldeneye. For me Bond films aren't just about action since I've read all of the novels. I think that Casino Royale is the nearest to the character from the novels and Craig plays Bond very well, the script of QoS aside. I also thought Moore's Bond was pretty much a Piss take of the character where it was just one needless gag set up one after the other. They were generally decent films in their own rights but not what they could of should have been.

I actually thought Lazenby was a good Bond but he got undue stick for not being Connery.

Craig's a good Bond. Seeing as they wanted a brooding, serious Bond they made the right choice. But in truth everybody is crap compared to Connery. Nobody comes close.

Definitely, Moore's Bond's were a Piss take but they were enjoyable for what they were. Moore once said that Bond is meant to be this secret agent, yet everybody knows his name wherever he goes. So why not have fun with it. I think Moore knew the character and the films were unrealistic as they were so he decided to play it a bit tongue in cheek.

As for Brosnan again, I did enjoy The World Is Not Enough. That's probably my favourite of Brosnan's films. I'm glad that Casino Royale bought back the "maturity" to the series again. Deck, you are right about the character from the novels, Craig was closest. Some would argue that Dalton was closer although he just looked frankly bored in the films.

Dalton was close but he was more of a classical Shakespearean actor and was a bit too wooden in the role. I think Craig, when the script allows it, gets deeper into the character, it's flaws and it's strengths.

Details of latest Bond movie unveiled
Thursday 3 November 2011

Details of the latest James Bond film have been unveiled in the UK, 50 years to the day after Sean Connery was announced as the man to play the superspy in Dr No.

Daniel Craig returns as British secret agent James Bond in Skyfall, the 23rd instalment in one of the world's longest-running and most successful film franchises.

Director Sam Mendes assured fans that Bond's latest adventure would adhere to the high octane formula that has made the films an enduring genre.

"It, I think, has all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including, to quell any rumours, a lot of action," Mendes told reporters at the launch of the film in London today.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem will play the villain and Judi Dench returns as Bond's stern boss M in a cast that will also include Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, French actress Berenice Marlohe and Britain's Naomie Harris.

In keeping with Bond's globe-trotting legacy, the film's locations include London, Shanghai, Istanbul and Scotland.

Daniel Craig confirmed the cast and crew started filming today and said that he was feeling "very comfortable" playing Bond again before adding: "No turning back now!"

Harris revealed she will be playing a field agent called Eve and said she had spent two months in training for "the rollercoaster that's about to commence".

French actress Marlohe, who joins the cast as the latest Bond girl, described her character as "glamorous" and "enigmatic".

When asked if Craig and Bardem would be taking their tops off in the movie, producer Barbara Broccoli said: "Damn right!"

I loved American Beauty so Mendes makes a good choice. A curious one, but good. I can see him bringing a lot of style to it, something that Quantum of Solace lacked.
