The movements are no worse than any others.  The 1120 movement in mine is an upgraded ETA 2892/A (ETA are also part of the Swatch group).  The movement has been upgraded over almost three decades.  I was advised by several people who are in the know that the troubles I had were very uncommon.  The new coaxial escapement is a product Omega are very proud of and confident enough to offer a three year warranty on so it is a little unfair to say they are neglecting product development because of their marketing budget.

I agree that customer service is a disgrace.  The whole experience of buying a luxury watch is very pleasant.  They really do treat the customer like a king and the same is the case when you take it in for a service.  However, when it really mattered when I had a complaint, it was as if they couldn't give a F*ck.  I asked an expert why Omega were trying so hard not to repair my watch free of charge.  My concern was that they are aware of an inherent defect which would cost them a fortune if they kept repairing as a gesture of goodwill.  I was told this wasn't the case and the cost of the service to Omega would be a drop in the ocean compared with the loss of another sale.

The contact at Omega suggested informed me he was not authorised to make any better offer than he gave me (it was originally 10% off the service price).  I then put pressure on them to name the person who could give the authority to make a better offer and with a bit of detective work tracked down Nick Towndrow (Head of Customer Service).  It was as if he was protected by several subordinates who would battle really hard to stop me speaking to him directly.  It was like I'd asked for an audience with her majesty.

They had the watch twice - it was inspected once and then Nick Towndrow's secretary asked for it again so he could inspect it personally (I suspect he didn't as one of the staff implied one of their senior technicians was looking at it).  The whole process of getting it repaired lasted five months.

I suspect the original time keeping issue was something neglected in the first service.  The water ingress is a bit more of a puzzle - I have had it down to 43 metres deep with no problems so I was a little surprised when it leaked in about 0.6 metres of water.  It passed the pressure test Omega carried out so my suspicions are the place I took it to didn't seal the case back properly after having it open.

Some info on the ETA 2892:  http://www.chronometrie.com/eta2892/eta2892.html

My mrs was the watch manager for a branch of Goldsmiths for nearly a decade, now she is the branch manager of a watch servicing company.

She says Omega are nice looking, but inside they're simply not reliable. They're like an upmarket fashion watch nowadays.

My mate bought an Omega on his 30th. He said Omega had it 5 times by the time he turned 31. On one occasion it came back with a scratch on the bezel that wasn't there when it went back.

For every 3 sold, 1 has issues.

She said Breitling and Ebel rarely have issues and even then are normally pretty minor or avoidable if worn regularly.

She deals with Omega issues every single day of her working life in the business (15 years) and if she says they're shit, they are.

I like em myself, but she'd never encourage it.

This is why I love this forum, everyone knows everything about anything.  Always wanted a breitling legende and my favourite is a Patek Philippe Nautilus the 5980 model.  I have collected watches since a young age and still have everyone. From Ben Sherman to my 2ct. Diamond watch, hardly wear it. My everyday watch is an Armani classic round design with roman numerals.

I have a few watches at the moment. I wear a tag or my omega to work and never had a days trouble with them. I'm a builder so they get some abuse from me aswell. Then I have two Rolex which I wear out of work.they are all good watches. When you are paying that type of money you won't gave a bad watch.  My advice would be to buy what you can afford without going into debt

Had a moment of clarity the other week and got a GMT II .

Split up with missis so had a wedge stuck away for a 'family holiday' next Xmas.

Been wanting one for ages so acted on impulse.

Great buy and will look to 'upgrade' it in 3-5 years

The watch you posted is nice, I like the colour - but something about Armani I just don't like! For me it just has a chivy kind of label! I have no idea where this comes from either! Think it's the dickheads who insist on wearing fake AJ t shirts etc around Leeds!

Sorry back to your question I had an Armani watch & a nice burberry one, both were nice and looked good with pretty much anything. Think I got about 7 year out of the Armani one before it gave up.

Anyone bought one off one of those 'replica' sites? I like the look and style of a lot of the big brands but would never spend that much. My bro got a top quality replica when he went to China for 50 quid. Mint. I guess the replica websites though are either a scam, or they sell junk.

I'd never buy any high end jewelry other than from the official shop or reputable licensed stockists.  I've been surrounded by bags and bags of fake Tiffany, Pandora, the high end watch brands, etc.  There are loads of people importing this stuff in bulk.  When you look at it up close its like comparing a fake football shirt to the genuine one.  I'd consider the stuff from China nothing more than fashion jewelry.

I sometimes pick up a fake on holiday, ad my mrs laughs and points out 10 things that are glaringly different from the brand its trying to emulate.

Hundreds come in every month asking for a battery change, and legally, she should put a hammer through them - but she tells them she cant do it. Says they're all crap and fashion watches are better made.
