gotta be happy with this guy reffing, very experienced and plenty of big fights under his belt (cotto/marg ll, pavlik/taylor, hopkins/jones).

he could have a big say in how this one pans out so glad its not someone with a questionable past or inexperienced.

Yeah but he lets a lot of stuff go too so that might not all play into Carl's hands if Ward starts with the head or smothering inside to nullify him.

smoger is a great appointment for both fighters and fans. he will let it follow as much as possible within the rules, and always gives the fighters a chance to fight their way out which should give us a good fight. let them at it as much as possible, smogers the man.

I thought Smoger was it his best in the Pavlik v Taylor fight...

Many ref's would have stopped it when Pavlik was wrapped around Taylor's legs but Pavlik went on to win deservedly so, cracking decision making.

Smoger's obviously an American....but he's the best American referee i could think of. He's always seemed fair and balanced imo. Lets the fighters fight, doesn't think anyone has come to see him. By far the best that Carl could have hoped for given where the fights taking place.

Its a Big fight and the last thing you need is a rookie ref without enough experience.
Smoger has enough experience to Boot and he lives for these Big occasions.Plus he's a Jersey Ref and the Jersey Commision appointed him for being the best at what he does.
Team Froch have said they are happy with the Judges,One from Britain,One from US and One from Canada. They are also happy with the Ref.
So let the fighters go at it without these insecure excuses and subplots floating about.

I don't think the ref will be a problem. I remember Hubert Earl ref'd Calzaghe v RJJ, had never ref'd a world title fight before and was brilliant even with RJJ's cut. The only concern for me is the judges

Smoker is probably the best ref in the game right now. Loves his small shows as well. He often seen working small cards throughout NJ,NY and PA. he just loves the fight game.

Smothering inside could be controlled by the opposition . When clinches happen, all you need to do is fight out of it  instead of just looking at the ref and waiting for him to do something about it  by breaking them apart.

To counter your argument. It expends more energy to fight out, especially when there is excessive holding.

If you don't learn from it, experience means shit

Correct.

And excessive clinching makes boxing resemble a wrestling match. I'd warn and deduct, if necessary, if I was a ref. It's called boxing not grappling for a reason.
