Sounds like you do a bit o running....so do i.
Today i did a normal sunday morning run, from 'nearly' being court short a few times BUT been able to make it to the nearest public toilets i always take a bit a loo role with me and have done for about 12months on my long slow runs(LSR).
Anyway this morning was supposed to be 10mile.  I got to just passed the 8 mile mark and i thought were getting to close to cloth now, i better knock a mile off and take the short cut home......I got to about 2 x tenths of a mile away (3mins walk?) and i had to dive into the bushes!
I walked back and told the wife she wasnt impressed!

Always go out prepares mate, paid off for me today!

Got an 8.5 mile park race coming up as part of an olympic celebration event through work. All takes place in london and the company pay expenses to get you to compete. Madness  Grin

I did my weights over christmas/january so now I'm getting the cardio back up and it's going really well. Ran 8.2 miles in 1hr 7mins the other day which is faster than I ran in a similar race last year, so really chuffed with that. Plus I live on really steep, hilly ground and the race is going to be flat as a pancake as it's right by the thames.

I don't do a lot of races but one thing I have noticed is the apparent lack of strength training that many middle-long distance runners do. Maximal strength wouldn't be as important as it might be for a short distance runner and you don't want a lot of excess muscle mass but in my opinion, I think you still need to be as strong as possible. When I did my 10 miler last year you could see the absence of core and muscle strength as the race went on as a lot of people were really struggling. I know it's different for me because I don't do a lot of racing but I found I got by really well on strength and lactate resistance, which carried over from the boxing training.

Any one else noticed similar?

nothing as long as you lads are running but i ran a british heart foundation 5k run yesterday and came second which was pretty pleasing. The guy who came first ran 5 miles every day so i wasnt exactly going to compete with that since ive done about 11 runs all year!!

What time to you clock up?

around 22 mins or thereabouts, its a forest run though with some steep hills so its a killer in places especially as the biggest hill on the course is about 4k in!!

there arent many serious runners in it but plenty who you can tell are keen runners, something i am not haha

Cheers mate, im just very competitive and it wrangles with me that the guy who came first was about a min ahead. I was 4th last year so did a little more training this year but defo not enough. one year i will put some good training in and get close to the winners times.

Same here, loads of projects needing to be live before the end of the financial year and only just got back from Parents evening on the bloody Derby night too  Sad

Well done Gibbo

I'm going in for fluid drained off my knees tomorrow, hoping to be fighting fit after that but dying to get 'back on it'

That's a really good time gibbo, fair play to you.

I started work with the local council yesterday, just supervising in the gym but they have spin in there as well and the instructor said I can go down as cover for that as well, so I thought 'tidy'. I bought a new static bike recently and went to pick it up today, tried an intense interval/hills programme this evening and it nearly killed me  Shocked

Couldn't believe how different was. Didn't realise how far back my quads had gone from the long distance running. Got to get some work in before I teach the class  Undecided  Grin

I've started my annual 'let's be mega healthy for a few months then sack it off' phase again today.

Once I get in to it though I can live like a monk, and can happily not drink alcohol for months. It's more peer pressure and being the boring and odd one out on a night out that eventually knocks me off the wagon again.

Last year the 2 things that ruined a good stint for me were first of all the Haye fight in June, because it ended up being a mammoth weekend booze session, and I hadn't had a proper drink for months. It took me 2 weeks to get over that and find any motivation again. Then in Aug I met a girl who I started seeing, and she alongside bottles of wine every night was more appealing than the gym. When I moved to HK in Sept I joined a gym, but I found the 24/7 party lifestyle of HK too hard to resist, so from then until now I've been a lazy slob, drinking pretty much every day in local bars, eating out every night, and eating a lot of junk food, with no exercise.

I look and feel like complete shit now, the beer belly and moobs are bigger than ever, so I'm determined this time to try and stick to it and have it become part of normal life, not just a 3 month thing once a year, as it's always back to square 1 after that. Am going to be getting up at 6am and going to the gym every day Mon-Fri. That way it's over and done with and I'm wide awake ready for work. No booze apart from Fri and Sat nights (if I actually want it on those nights), and healthy diet.

We have boat parties in HK in the summer, and there are a few beaches only half an hour away, so it's time to get cracking, as the hot and humid summer will arrive in May..

How is everyone doing?

My weight hasn't massively changed but I feel like terrible health / fitness wise at the moment

I'm f***ing gutted, had a lay off after my knees went and ended up in hosi, saw a rheumatologist who drained some fluid on Thursday and injected some steroids which initially cleared them up

Went the gym on Saturday thinking the worst was over (weights only) and Sunday night was in agony again with swollen knee

Started on my left knee last time and spread to my ankle then right knee and this time it's my right knee spread to my left knee  Embarrassed

Genuinely gutted as I was flying at the start of the year

@7777. Gutted mate, have you tried swimming? Low impact but a good cv and muscular workout. I would leave off the general gym work for a while. Best of luck with it mate.

I was going well, massively cut down on alcohol and doing a bit of training, started losing weight, got a stone and a bit off, the a week and a half ago slipped over like a twat and landed on a dinner plate which smashed and embedded into my kneecap, 20 stitches later...stitches out on Wednesday but I reckon another 2 weeks before any training, bugger!!
