According to Eddie Hearn, promoter for super middleweight Carl Froch, Showtime has rejected a potential April fight with IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24KOs). The two sides were discussing a potential two-fight deal, with the first coming on April 14th in Montreal and the second time place in August in Nottingham.

Hearn told TVA Sports that Showtime, who have Bute under contract, would prefer to have the Canadian champion fight an American opponent in his next televised match.

"We discussed the fight with Interbox and we even received a draft of the contract. Both boxers want to fight, but I was told Showtime would like to have Bute face an American. They control the situation because they distribute the money. The two sides have agreed, but we can not do anything more for now," Hearn said.

Froch v DeGale.

I know Froch has earned an easyish homecoming but he at least wants to give his fans some value for money - that would be over with in no time

After the joke that was the Dirrell fight (run around) at 1 in the morning or whatever it was, I'd take 6 mins of fun and an early night.

I suppose Carl taking out bute would Fook up any unification plans showtime may have with bute and ward.
Don't particularly want to see ward Froch again anytime soon, so let's stick with Kessler/Stieglitz in the summer. Ward and bute can keep fighting who they like in their own back yards. Then when ward does beat bute, Carl can finish lucien off.

It was asking too much if you ask me.

Showtime signed him on a £800k a fight deal ($1.2m) for three fights I recall.

He fought Brian Magee and Glen Johnson - an Irishman and a Jamaican. I can understand them wanting to get an American in there for Bute instead of an Englishman.

But the reality is, who have they got ? they haven't got anyone but the Dirrell brothers. Andre is dull as dishwater and not seen enough of his brother yet, but he doesn't look like he'd give the top level fighters too much to worry about - and neither bring any fan base to the party.

Also with the second-leg, if Bute's no longer under contract, and Hershman is at HBO - then the second fight could go there if the first fight is exciting.

Personally that's why a two-fight deal was going to have too many hoops to jump through to work.

More than a few points difference on the score cards ? no return fight !
TV not interested? no return fight

It's not on for that protected fighter in Canada to have things go his way AGAIN and AGAIN.

So in closing, i'd rather he boxed anywhere than Canada next.

Im awaiting dates as we have to book our holidays in next two weeks either May or August. So hoping June myself or April. Been too long since i went along.

I would also add that showtime messed up by backing Ward....they clearly wanted to make him a big box office fighter and cash in... but it failed due to Wards style. Now I have the feeling that showtime are looking at making Bute there cash cow and a fight in the U.S will be the first step.

Froch can look to fight bk in Nottingham now, however I doubt Froch would take a walkover opponent....I think he wil fight the highest ranked opponent thats prepared to take the trip. Pavlik would be good but that got cancelled written all over it so maybe Pavlik with a guy like Bika lined up should Pavlik pull out.

How about following that up with a fantastic four tournament. Froch, Kessler, Bute and Ward......winner takes all  Wink

Froch vs Bute wouldn't be off according to RDS. Negotiations didn't stop and it would be closer to an agreement than it was before Showtime's intervention. The only worthy american opponent for Bute doesn't want to fight him now so I guess he really wants to fight Froch instead of Dirrell.

There is the link if some can read French http://www.rds.ca/boxe/chroniques/333589.html

Lucian Bute is already in the gym. His next fight is scheduled in three months, possibly April 14 in Montreal. Unless the Bell Centre is occupied by the Canadian! But if the trend continues, the Habs may be on vacation at that time.

Bute does not yet know the name of his opponent as no agreement has been reached. It is very likely that this will be Carl Froch, despite the rumors that have circulated in recent days. According to these rumors, the television network Showtime would not want to have a duel Froch-Bute: A European deal with a Canadian of Romanian origin. It is certain that such a confrontation would not be as seller in the United States a fight between Andre Ward Lucian Bute.

Except that Bute is not in the plans of Ward in the short term. I think the winner of the Super six first give a hand to Mikkel Kessler. Moreover, the promoter of Kessler is currently the United States in order to negotiate with the clan Ward and the two major television networks, Showtime and HBO. We would like to present this duel in Denmark or on neutral ground. Ward would then receive a grant of nearly $ 3.5 million.

The name of Bernard Hopkins was also mentioned. Hopkins would face Bute, and arranged for his name circulating. However, the veteran boxer is certainly not the first choice of Interbox. It is his opponents look bad, his fights are boring and there is no seller in the United States. Just look at the ratings in his last fight against Chad Dawson to have proof.

That's why Showtime can not rule out a confrontation between Froch and Bute. It's a natural. There is an animosity between the two boxers, the promotion of the fight would be easy to do. Froch is the first choice of Interbox. This is the kind of opponent that would look good Bute.

The promoter Jean Bedard declined to comment on negotiations. But contrary to what has been said, both parties continue to negotiate and I think they will come to an agreement soon. It's part of the strategy. Is allowed to flow the information that Showtime does not want to have a fight Froch-Bute .... Froch promoter turns around and agrees to be a little less greedy in its demands, and suddenly you get closer to an agreement !

According to Stephan Larouche, Bute is ready for any boxer but obviously he has a preference for Froch: "Froch would give us a very interesting duel, it would be seller! But Lucian will fight against anyone, it is left in the hands of Jean Bedard and the focus is on training. "

Bute also fly to West Palm Beach, Florida, from February 12 where he will attend a training camp for a period of eight weeks. He will be back in Quebec on April 6 only. A week before his fight. The opponent yet to be confirmed!

Translated for those that dont Grin
