Amir Khan has been granted an "immediate rematch" with Lamont Peterson by the WBA following his controversial loss.

Khan lost a spilt decision - as well as his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles - to the American in Washington in December.

However, the fight was dogged in controversy with Khan docked two points for pushing by referee Joe Cooper, while a "mystery man" - later identified to be Mustafa Ameen - was seen at ringside appearing to handle the scorecards.

Khan also claims he was told he had won the fight only for the Peterson to be awarded the decision after a long wait for the result.

Thrilled
Khan's promotional team Golden Boy had appealed the decision to both the WBA and IBF - wanting the bout to be declared a "no-contest" and for a rematch to be ordered.

The WBA have made the first move by agreeing to a rematch, with the IBF - to whom Ameen is affiliated - will make a decision next week.

WBA vice president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza said: "I can confirm there we have ordered a direct rematch. We will issue a press release very soon."

And Golden Boy Promotions' Richard Schaefer, who represents Khan, told spam.com: "The WBA ordered an immediate rematch. I'm thrilled that he's getting one and hope we can start the negotiations and get the fight done.

"Amir and Lamont are both terrific young men and athletes who fought their hearts out in Washington in December and I'm sure this decision will get applause by fight fans around the world.

"The rematch will be one of the most anticipate fights of 2012 because both guys are exciting, young and I think it's exactly the kind of fight people want to see."

I backed Peterson in the first and will again in a rematch. Khan will be a bag of nerves and Peterson knows he can beat him now, beforehand he may have doubted it.

I wonder if Peterson will just stick two fingers up and vacate the WBA belt if the IBF say no rematch?

Why do you think he didnt last time man?? If Lamont doesnt get stopped during the pitter pat onslaught in the first two rounds again, I can see the same story, he outfought and outmanned Khan last time, he really has nothing to fear!

I'm not trying to stir the sh*t mate, i eally think Khan underestimated him last time, the lack of a rematch clause is evident of that.

He will be more focused this time, i think he just got a hard on when he dropped Peterson twice (arguably) in the first round, he just got complacent. All we can do is wait and see mate, but i firmly believe Khan has this in the bag.

Although Khan has come on a great deal since Prescott but i still he needs to ditch his yes man team around him i.e his family and advisers. The tell him how great he it is and it goes to his head

Keep a no nonsense team of Roach and Ariza..... job done.

Khan "should" beat Peterson quite easily. However he thought the wrong fight. not to take anything away from Peterson as he fought the right fight and had the fight of his life.

For me it was a close enough fight to have a rematch, just like it would be for Groves and Degale.

I didnt think you were chief, it was just an honest question!! Wink I dont think Peterson was hurt either time and one he tripped over the ref!! All the pressure will be on Khan, as hes made every excuse under the sun for the loss, and if he doesnt do a number on Peterson early, he'll start to panic I think!

I dont know about fighting the wrong fight, he started out the way he normally does and didnt change, Peterson however did change after the first two rounds and started to walk him down and close the distance just like Maidana did, then work him on the ropes, Khan seemed to have little answer to either fighter when not given room. And his backfoot fighting as well as his inside work is shite!!
