British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves insists he is in no hurry to fight Carl Froch.

Groves enjoyed a stellar 2011 as he toppled Olympic champion James DeGale in a fierce grudge match before seeing off the highly-rated Paul Smith with a second-round stoppage.

The 23-year-old appears to be destined for a world title shot in the next two years, but an all-British clash against Froch, who lost his WBC belt to WBA champion Andre Ward in Atlantic City last month, is a prospect many in the boxing world would like to see first.

And although Groves is up for fighting Froch in the near future, he admits he would be wasting his time if he were to start sounding out the Nottingham-based 'Cobra' now.

"A fight with Froch would be a big British fight and that's what gets people really excited, but he is not interested in fighting me," Groves said.
Challenge

"I've got no doubt about that and I am not going to insult him by calling him out.

"He probably wants to win back a world title first.

"Maybe a fight could happen a year or two down the line. I'd love the challenge but there is no rush.

"It's easy to get carried away but I have to concentrate on what's in hand for me now."

Next up for Groves is a defence of his British title against Edinburgh's Kenny Anderson on March 16 at Wembley Arena.

Anderson knocked Groves down in the one and only time the Englishman has hit the canvas during his undefeated 14-fight career in Manchester in 2010, but he fought back to stop the Scot in the sixth round.

And Groves expects his opponent to be out for revenge when they lock horns in two months' time.

He said: "He will be frustrated that his claim to fame is that he knocked me down but didn't win.

That will be burning inside him but I am looking forward to showing people this is how I should have done it the first time."

Fair play to Groves he knows he as more to learn before he fights the top guys in a packed division with talent. Froch maybe could take on Groves when he is coming to the end of his career but as of yet Carl could easily get big world title fights and Groves will probably take on more domnestic and European level fighters to build his resume.
Got to give props to GG though his career so far as been very good. I don't know if he is capable of going onto fight the top Guys and coming back with a world title but I certainly think that out of him, Degale and Jefferies he as a better chance.

Great post tito. George is a developing talent and it looks like he and Adam know and accept that. The long term goal is obviously a world title but they seem to be going one step at a time which is refreshing.

I think at this stage Carl would have too much for George but if George can keep learning, keep this mindset and keep developing then he who knows how much better he will get. There's no rush and no need to get carried away.

He needs to be focussed on Kenny Anderson for the time being because while George is the justified fave Kenny is no mug and can make his life difficult in there.

I always find it refreshing to hear a young fighter who knows where he stands tells it how it is and is honest with not only himself, but fans aswell. I hadn't even heard of Groves until he'd beaten that big mouth fella Robert Degale or whatever his bloody name is, but I'm liking what I've read of him so far.

Adam Booth has brought Groves to Nottingham and Sheffield to spar Froch in the last couple of years.

Carl likes him and rates him.

I'd imagine that his comments relate to questions asked to him, rather than it being a press statement. I know Froch dropped him in sparring, but who knows in a big fight in 2013 or whenever it could be good.

But right now they are both on different levels and it if Froch wrecked him, it wouldn't do British boxing's future much good.

Degale however...  Grin

As others have said basically, Groves says and also seems to be doing all the right things. He is not ducking any guys but still taking on big rivals/threats at and around his class.

He got british fighter of the year last year and it was well deserved, beating Degale really made people sit up and take notice.

My biggest worries for George are ****** as his promoter who I can not see having George's best interests at heart, and having the David Haye their too as I would hate George to develop anything close to the personality of Haye.

Believe its only a 3 fight deal with ****** with the Anderson fight being the 2nd so could jump back to Hayemaker (if they still have their license) or another promoter possibly in the US by the end of the year. Id like to see him sign with Matchroom.

I like Groves, honestly do but I just feel deep down that he's not going to be that successful when he faces true world class.

I really, really hope I am wrong though Wink
