I'm playing for a local side called Knottingley rockware, before that played for a few local sides, redhill, lock lane, Cas panthers. To be honest mate it doesn't surprised one bit about the number of wigan lads in the squad, at amateur level they produce some shit hot amateur sides from over that way consistantly.
I have heard of Lock Lane but none of the others to be honest. Wigan is saturated with teams where I live Ince Rose Bridge is 150 metres down the road and St Pats is about 800m away and in between that is Ince St Williams who only play up to u16. A mate of mine coaches Rose Bridge u16's his Lad is in the Wigan Academy top player from what I have seen bit on small size but really quick will defo get in the 1st team at some point. Wigan have some great amatuer teams the local derby games attract bigger crowds than some SL games. Rose Bridge v St Pats had 3000 on last season people were stood on panel fences watching it and even a few were watching on the roofs of there houses at the back end of the ground. I think the Wigan area as close to 30 teams but not every one plays open age. My old club Hindley was one of the smallest but in my age group brought Paul Deacon, Jon Clarke, Anthony Stewart, Paul Johnson and Phil Jones into SL and Tommy Mackinson signed from Hindley to Saints. I would say St Pats is probably the most famous Amatuer rugby league club in the world no club as ever produced so many players from the 1970s to today not just to Wigan but to other clubs like Widnes, Warrington and Saints.

I played for thatto heath wild boars today tito, only involved a few tackles and my legs are hurting My best mate had a run out with Shevington Sharks in March after a 13 year lay off. He did it for a bet and couldn't walk properly for 2 days after his first game. He as played a few times since but because of a new job he as packed it in. There is no way I would ever consider playing again I finished at 16 after 8 years at Hindley and a few games for Pats played a bit in the army and that's that. I was nearly tempted to play for Spring View when I left the army in 2002 I was only 23 and fit as a fiddle my uncle was a assistant coach and mythered me to death so I agreed to meet the head coach but he wanted me to play on the wing when I spoke to him in the pub and to be honest I just couldn't get up for it anymore. If your considering playing get insurance, clubs normally insure you through your weekly subs but make sure you get a policy that covers injurys like broken bones, spinal and head injuries. They can be quite expensive but if you don't it can be a nightmare my ex's cousin husband lost his job, home and marriage after playing 7 a side for Leigh East at the last minute through a broken leg don't risk it.

Knottingley and castleford panthers are small clubs really unless your from the area, but redhill were a massive amateur club before they fell through (clubhouse fire = going bust) they were one of the main feeder clubs for Cas, Paul Anderson and Andy Haye came through there off the top of my head but Cas have been littered with players from there in years gone by and still the likes of Craig Huby who's there now came through Redhill. Lock lane are a pretty successful amateur side now too, fantastic facilities down there, I played with some decent players there. There's quite a few local lads playing in super league now who I use to play with, Larne Patrick at Hudders, he was always going to make it, Kyle Wood who's broke through at wakey this year and my mates claim to fame is chinning Sam Burgess when we were about 15

Heard of Cas Panthers before. This is why I have a lot of time for Cas. It really is a Rugby League town!
One of the reps I buy from played for St Pats and many other teams. Played with Hock, Long and loads of others. Very refreshing to see a rep being into league. As I'm in private healthcare they're generally union boys. He even went to college with Deacon who apparently was one of those gifted guys and was even captain of the college football team and only got in to rugby by chance!
My local side is Queens.. May have heard of them ha

I played at Hindley with Paul Deacon when we was 8 through to 15 he is a good lad a very gifted kicker even at 10 he was slotting them out from the touch line easily. He used to practise for hours and hours at a time he was on the small side but a really good player and played all representive rugby that he could. He also played for the Junior Latics and was a really good golfer who got a scholorship to play in the juniors pro ams but turned it down. Most of the current Wigan team have come through St Pats everybody is always raving about the kids at 15 and 16 who are getting scouted and getting snapped up into the academys. I remember being at School when Sean Long played his last ever game of amatuer rugby against our school. He was playing for the Deanery and the following week he was going to Wigan as a academy product and therefore couldn't play for his school or St Judes again. He was 2 years older than me but everybody was saying for months he was a huge talent and the next number 7 at Wigan. We walked down to the pitches after school to watch the game and there was 1500 fans there decked out in wigan shirts there to watch him and loads of people from the rugby magazines and the wigan club.

Good watch that. Should be on Anytime hopefully
You can see from the way he talks why Queensland are so successful, yeah they have amazing players, but the way Meninga talks you can just see the confidence he has, not arrogance but pure confidence.
Truly outstanding player!

RFL rejected bid to buy Bulls. Must've been something very dodgy behind the scenes! There was something not right with them from the outset. They weren't bothered about the rugby team at all

Yeah the main attraction for them was getting the land and if they couldn't sustain the Bulls they would be left with prime land and sell it on for a big mark up. They weren't fans just opportunists glad the RFL have rejected there bid.
