Arum said that Bradley still appears the frontrunner to face Pacquiao, given that WBA junior middleweight Miguel Cotto still is balking at Pacquiao's requirement that their bout be contested at or below the 147-pound welterweight limit.
"Does it look closer to being Bradley? It looks closer to being Bradley, obviously, by the process of elimination," said Arum of a bout that may take place on June 9 the Thomas & Mack Center or the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. "Pacquiao's opponent will be decided late this week. We've got plenty of time."
Cotto still is in the picture, but only by the slimmest of margins, said Arum.
"What happens if Miguel Cotto comes back and says, 'Okay, I'll make the weight?'" said Arum. "That opens up another possibility. But right now, he's saying that he wouldn't."
Arum acknowled that WBC welterweight beltholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. is out as a potential opponent for May 5, the target date for a return to the ring by Mayweather, who is slated to begin serving an 87-day jail sentence on June 1.
"Floyd is out of the picture for May. He put himself out of the picture for May. Enough is enough," said Arum. "Any discussion with Floyd was over when he said that he would't go for the 50-50 split. As far as we're concerned, that's it. It's over."
Interesting.

Why should/would 154lb champion cotto come in at or below the 147 lb limit? Madness.
Hope cotto tells them to get stuffed

Anyone on here (from UK/Ireland) ever been to the cowboys stadium/texas for a fight before? I would really fancy this if I can get the price somewhere reasonable. Any information at all would be helpful. Just wondered the best place to fly from/to, transfers, places to stay. Looks like it's going to be really expensive but I can dream

Don't get me wrong, Marquez vs Peterson is a tremendous "trade" fight so to speak but these guys are not exactly household names.

Grizz, I'm not from UK/Ireland, but just to give you my impression, I went to Pac-Clottey and would have to say this is not a great place to see a fight unless you get one of the most expensive tickets. Most people actually watch the fight on the big HDTV scoreboard as the ring is just too far away. Also, the location of the stadium is in a suburb of Dallas. It is a great place for a football game, though.
Lots to see and do in Texas (it's huge) and taking in the fight while there on vacation would be OK, I guess. But it wouldn't be like a big fight weekend in Las Vegas or NYC. I'd much rather see a big fight in an arena in the downtown of a fun city. I think the Plaza de Toros bull ring in Mexico City would be awesome for Marquez-Peterson myself.

Thanks for that brockton. I only said UK/Ireland with a view to package prices, flights, etc; so thanks for your input mate much appreciated. So unless you can get quite close to the ring it's not really worth it for boxing then? I am determined to see Juan Manuel Marquez fight before he retires though. I wonder what ticket prices might be like? I do really like the idea of a week in Texas and I would be coming over with my family (we are all Marquez fans) so it might work out alright and packages are a lot cheaper than I thought they might be, looking at around £1K for seven nights with flights and hotel. I paid that for four nights in Vegas and I can't say I was big fan of Las Vegas once the fight was over. Probably because I'm too mean to gamble Cheers mate

Massive mexican population in/around texas though, I believe. What an atmosphere. I think this would do very well if priced right, hopefully I'll be there in my poncho and sombrero

After the Petersen fight fell through, Marquez is stuck for a fight really. He is recently quoted as saying "If Pacquiao doesn't want a fourth fight then I'll retire".
He makes his comeback now on April 21, in Mexico against undefeated Argentinian Cesar Rene Cuenca. It could be for Tim Bradley's old WBO 140lb belt. Cuenca is 42-0 but has never challenged at a decent level, has never fought outside Argentina and has only 1 stoppage to his name, so this may go the same route as the Marcos Licona fight.
What it says to me is that they might be looking at a unification fight with Erik Morales. I am a huge Marquez fan but this can't be for the world title in a division Marquez has never boxed in?
I have read that Marquez plans to fight three times this year: April, July and then (maybe) pac in November.

As much as I like Marquez............he's my fav Mexican fighter of all times. I still don't like thsi idea of winning Vacant Titles.I always like it when a Boxer has to take Title away from a Champion. So for Bradly to Vacate his WBO 140 BELT,that leaves Marquez going for his 4th World Title. As we know the WBO has a strange ranking system that can be altered at any stage to make a fight. So we might have a guy not highly Ranked in the 140 division suddenly elevated to no 1 by the WBO so they can make the fight. Still I would love to see Marquez win another World title by actually beating a Champion and that would seal the deal for him.

Marquez-Morales at 140 for any version of the major world titles would be ideal and even still at their ages, has the potential to be a classic. Obviously it won't be the fight it could have been 5+ years ago, but it can still be a great fight for boxing, and one that needs to happen before both guys retire in my opinion. Mexico would be the best place for the fight if they both fought.
