I'm asking this out of genuine ignorance.

Where would they have it in Scotland? You've got to think of the logistics - hotels, pubs etc.

As others have said, I'd prefer a trip to Scotland rather than another schlep to London to deal with all those Lyle&Scott, side parted, deck shoe wearing morons.

I wouldnt go to Upton Park again, the Katsidis fight was a joke. We walked in the stadium and theyd run out of food and drink 3 hours before the main event. (Also dont tarnish all "cockeys" with that same east london/essex brush. they are a (in)breed of their own)  Grin

well loads of places ,if your having a stadium ,Glasgow has 3 stadiums that seat 50 thousand plus (not that they would need a stadia that big) .airdrie offerd there stadium whoch wouldproberly take 11 thousand at a guess ,and they offerd that for free before for a fight .

arenas the braehead takes aboyt 6000 and the SECC would be my shout, that has had 11 thousand prev for a eubank fight but im lead to beleve it could accomadate more than that .Secc is just outseide glasgow city centre and has laods of hotels near it and a train station etc

A fight like this should get the full Sky treatment, with a decent kitty on the table - but it will be squeezed out on a shoe string on ch456 with Duke McKenzie commentating.

I *heard* a trainer's wife was kicking off because her husband hadn't been paid by a fighter, and had to be settled down and assured that the fighter hadn't paid anyone was because he'd not been paid either.

I guess therein could be the issue.  If Mitchell got a decent amount for fighting Murray for some Intercontinental type title on Sky then he'd have a legitimate expectation in terms of what he'd get for a world title shot (also taking the Katsidis fight into consideration).

I see ranked behind Mitchell is a Russian based Uzbek who could probably be brought over for pocket change.

Early 2013 the Glasgow Hydro opens its being built with sports in mind and in my opinion will be one of the best venues in the UK for boxing when it opens. I have a hunch Fwank might be aiming to take the fight there and keep the two fighters busy in the meantime.

Just for info its a brand new purpose built venue circular in shape for tennis, basketball and rock concerts that use this type of stage it will seating 12k. Hydro are putting money up to attract bookings for when the venue opens. I won't be surprised if we see Burns fighting in there next year.

It will go where it makes the most money. I would say it makes more in London than North of the Border.

Then again, the fight should be in Scotland as Burns is the champion afterall but what should happen in boxing doesnt always happen.

Agreed.

Look at the shambles where the IBF 168lb Champion is having to come over to Nottingham  Wink

Make the fight happen in Blackpool, the jocks would come down in huge numbers for that! Seriously though, I can't this fight selling out an outdoor arena unless its a very small (under 15,000) place. Best bet would be the biggest indoor arena Glasgow or Edinburgh has.
