he number-one contender in the UFC's heavyweight division, has failed a UFC 146 pre-fight drug test, according to Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer.

Overeem tested positive for an increased testosterone/epitestosterone or T/E ratio after last Tuesday's surprise drug test, which took place immediately following the UFC 146 press conference in Nevada. Overeem's sample far surpassed the 6-to-1 limit, testing above a 10-to-1 ratio.

The 31-year-old Overeem was scheduled to fight UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos on May 26, 2012 at the main event of UFC 146, however that booking is now in jeopardy.

Last Tuesday's test functioned as one of the two random tests Overeem is required to undergo in accordance with NSAC demands after the Dutch heavyweight missed a commission requested pre-fight drug test in advance of his UFC 141 bout against Brock Lesnar.

Overeem will be required to appear before the NSAC if wishes to seek licensure.

Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva all tested negative for banned substances in advance of their UFC 146 main card bouts.

Yeh he did, this is what happened

"Overeem missed a drug test in Nevada, saying he had flown back to Holland to be with his sick mother. A pair of drug tests conducted in Europe were then mishandled until he eventually submitted a sample to an accredited lab. He passed that test, along with a subsequent test in Nevada prior to UFC 141, and was granted a conditional license. Among the conditions of that license, he would be subjected to random tests throughout 2012."

I felt at the time something stank about the whole situation. I think a lot of people in the know, knew Overeem was using PEDS and would be caught. Ken Shamrock was talking about it only a few weeks ago. Wiki shows his fight as a N/C but this can't be right as he passed all test pre and after the fight. So not sure it will be amended.

I'm not surprised, it was one of the most obvious things i've ever seen...

It's very dissapointing to see, as i was looking forward to seeing JDS put a real beatdown on him.

They should scrap the division, the fights are embarrasing imo.

I like the heavyweight division, though not sure a whole main card of them in UFC 146 is a great idea. Though its a really good card all the way down the facebook Preliminary card. Dan Hardy will be fighting on the facebook card.

Can't wait to see Paul Sass fight again, he is a star in the making. Nice to see a british fighter being about take a fight to the ground and win.

Main card
Heavyweight bout:  Junior dos Santos vs. TBA
Heavyweight bout:  Cain Velasquez vs.  Frank Mir[1]
Heavyweight bout:  Roy Nelson vs.  Antonio Silva[1]
Heavyweight bout:  Shane del Rosario vs.  Gabriel Gonzaga[1]
Heavyweight bout:  Mark Hunt vs.  Stefan Struve[1]
Preliminary card (FX)
Featherweight bout:  Diego Brandao vs.  Darren Elkins[1]
Lightweight bout:  Evan Dunham vs.  Edson Barboza[1]
Middleweight bout:  Jason Miller vs.  C.B. Dollaway[1]
Lightweight bout:  Jacob Volkmann vs  Paul Sass[1]
Preliminary card (Facebook)
Welterweight bout:  Dan Hardy vs.  Duane Ludwig[1]
Light Heavyweight bout:  Kyle Kingsbury vs.  Glover Teixeira[1]
Featherweight bout:  Mike Brown vs.  Daniel Pineda[1

You wont see many better cards this year!

Tomstrong the fights are great to build up but come time to step in the cage they are very often huge let downs.

Every Lesnar fight was borderline embarrasing really, Velazquez lost his title in about a minute or whatever and Ovewreem is a juiced up cheat who according to the very honest Chael Sonnen got sparked by a light heavy in his last UFC stint.

Tim Sylvia was terrible.
Arlovski was decent back in the day
Couture while a great fighter should never of been a HW champion had his opponents been half decent and not just big.
Frank Mir is hit and miss in terms of performance
Fedor is passed it.
Josh Barnett is a tough guy but was not good enought to make it years ago yet now he is being talked about as a danger.
Shane Carwin was ok, probably involved in the only fight of Brocks that was not a tad humiliting to watch.

Had you said this 5 years ago I would have agreed with you but the overall quality and skill level has improved greatly since then, it's an evolving division where the standards are continually improving and the Tim Sylvia's of this world operating at the highest levels are a thing of the past. The shite is being eradicated, Lesnar exposed and lets face it, he was a marketing tool, which worked like a dream for Dana White.

The cream is slowly but surely rising to the top and with a few more young talented additions added to the list it might even be one of the most competitve division in the UFC (I'm maybe being a little to optimistic their Tongue) .

Remember, nobody saw Jon Jones coming at Light heavyweight did they..

Give it just another 2/3 more years and we'll have a great division.

Who though Tuco? Where is this bunch of guys with great skill levels? I just do not see it mate, I see a load of decent skilled guys but too many muscled up steroid freaks who after 2 minute or so are blowing out their arse.

They still talk about Cheik Kongo as a danger, the guy for all his size and great shape is a pudding.

Personally i think we'll be seeing jon jones step up to heavyweight in the not too distant future. He's certainly got the frame and reach to do it, not to mention the skill set.
