It's an absolutely massive expense for a few weeks of, let's be honest, outdated and dull sporting events.

I'd watch the boxing, perhaps the 100m sprint and that's your lot.

There is no way on earth, these multi-million pound veledromes can recoup their costs with just a few days of amateur events. It's simply not possible !

Nor will they will be of any benefit to anyone in London - except maybe some Billionaire-owned football club.

They have built Olympic venues and stadiums and some of them are going to be demolished. Why did they not build a track around Wembley and host it there. The redevelopment of Stratford for the Games was a good idea but its going to get sold off for far less than what it as cost to demolish, rebuild and develop the area 8 years ago. What is going to happen to the Olympic village is it going to be sold off for affordable housing or do they have other plans for it.

My main sport is boxing, and no mistake.  Amateur boxing at the Olympics drives me nuts with the scoring, I really just cannot watch it.  That's it for me!

I'm looking forward to it.  I live in London,  not far from Greenwich.  I have tickets for the Opening Ceremony, Boxing and Beach Volleyball, which I got through the ballot.

I'm hoping most of London get behind the Olympics and turn it into a festival like occasion.  Similar to like what the Germans done in the 2006 World Cup.   The whole city should be on a massive high during the Olympics and if people embrace it, then they could have a great time. Unfortunately though, too many skeptics want to know the in's and out's of everything and instead just moan about the cost and everything.

When people go to watch boxing in Vegas,  do you moan about how much the MGM have forked out to host that fight?  Do people moan about how much money Germany and South Africa have spent on recent world cups?  No.  They enjoy the occasion.    The fact of the matter remains,  if you agree with the expence or not, your opinions wont mean you skip the extra costs of it.  Either way,  the everyday worker would of paid for the Olympics through their own money and you cant escape that.   The way I look at it is you can either try and enjoy the time the Olympics are here and perhaps enjoy the event.  Or you can sit and home and carrying on moaning about how much it cost and get absoltely no enjoyment from your money spent.

London tax payers have paid a large amount of the funds towards the Olympics and hopefully they will feel that they will get something out of it. I do think its unfair that anyone could get tickets when really Londoners should have got priority. I ain't really into it but it promises to be a good games that team GB should do well in.
I just hope the athletes and organisers get the recogntion for the hardwork and planning that as gone into it rather than the large amount of politicians who will see it as a way of using the Games as a way of scoring votes.

You can't discriminate against people just because of where they live though mate, am sure some people in Liverpool etc would of loved the Olympics there or whatever. The ticket situation was a joke as it was without saying who lives where gets first attempt.

Can they actually still hold Olympics in sub zero temperatures, with gale force winds and driving torrential rain?   Wink

Liverpool tax payers didnt have enforced council tax rises to pay for it though. I think Londoners should have been given priority because they are the ones also who are going to suffer with public transport and local services being stretched

No mate the rest of the country will just be bladdered trying to get down there  and payin crazy stupid fees and london will or should get all the infastructure that the games will leave . Its not even as though londoners are very good as supporting there own
.
Wembley is a prime example of that

The financial position of the Olympics is totally reliant on tickets being sold outside of London, London's biggest nightmare would be every supporter waking up in their own London bed, going to the games and then eating in their own London home. For this games to even break even commercially they need hotels, bars and restaurants to be packed to the rafters

My huge enthusiasm for it completely disappeared when I was allocated ZERO tickets for it, despite applying for loads. Shame as I was really hoping to take my kids as a once in a lifetime experience. But same as many things in this country, they completely F***ed up the ticket process. I just hope we do not end up a laughing stock and that it is a great event.

Well my enthusiasm is now back! Thanks to getting athletics tickets through the 2nd chance sale yesterday I'm really pleased I can now take my daughters. Looks a good session mens 110m hurdles final, women's 400m final and men's 200m semi final as well as some other field events.

There is a general sale starting on 23rd, it's not been massively advertised so there should be some boxing tickets available.

The vast majority of posts sum up all that is wrong with British pride, or lack of it. I can't wait for this once in a lifetime sporting festival. The best athletes ever to live coming to the uk to ply their elite trade.
Everyone should be proud and excited ( not just londoners), and this whole 'it's for southerners' crap really irritates me. We live in a country smaller than single states in the us, yet we moan at a 3 hour drive (or 1 hour flight at tops). This talk of 'them londoners' getting all the benefits makes us sound like stereo typical miserable northern twats.
As well for Scotland's response... Don't get me started. Miserable sweaty buggers is all I can say. Hope chris hoy gets a puncture. Grin joke btw, I hope he wins and brightens up your moaning lives.
