You could never offend me on an Internet forum mate. It may come across like I'm being ott about this, but the whole post of yours really sums up what fuckin annoys me about some people in the uk. We all moan about the crap things about the uk, but when we have a chance to say 'actually we do have great things, we do have great cities (London being the best btw... I'm a manc), we can do things which make the world applaud, we can live up to the name great... There is always a pocket of bottleless no marks who won't take part for fear of things going bad, people who won't put their hand up and say 'this will be great' for fear of ridicule. People who will be ashamed of the attitude when it's all over.

I can see your point on the Athletics and it's defo valid BUT it's the olympics, every man and his dog will watch the 100m at a very minimum, it's always a huge race especially now Usain Bolt is ripping it up. I personally am really looking forward to it all now especially the Boxing with the amount that have qualified but I'd watch it if it was hosted by another country too
No, your right... alot of people will be tuning into the major events like the 100m. I haven't really got into the spirit of it. For me.. most of it on the whole, it's take it or leave it, I'm not fussed. I'll be tuning in sporadically. But who knows, once it starts I could be glued to the telly, I doubt it but we're only in May and it starts in July right? I haven't given the Olympics a second thought until I saw this thread. |

you do no that the "Great" in Great Britain actually refers to land mass ? I dont really give a F*ck about wether folk think we live in a great nation or not, as it stands the world is close to heading backwords and the whole world finacial system is about to go on its knees ,that is what i worry about,not about weather Pedro from Paris or Abdul from Abudhabi or Skippy from Australia thinks my "country" can run an olympic games. Just trying to give it a bit of perspective ... |

The financial position of the Olympics is totally reliant on tickets being sold outside of London, London's biggest nightmare would be every supporter waking up in their own London bed, going to the games and then eating in their own London home. For this games to even break even commercially they need hotels, bars and restaurants to be packed to the rafters
Yes but other countries get a large ticket allocation and they will need hotels, places to eat and drink. I don't know a single person who is going or infact is planning to do anything apart from watching it on TV. |

I'd say you were being a bit ott, it's just my opinion in the present, but hey, nothing wrong with a bit of passion as long as it doesn't cross the line. As I said In my last post, I haven't given the Olympics a second thought until reading this thread, I've not discussed it with anyone, I'm not getting the buzz your supposed to get with an event of this magnitude, hence my don't care attitude which seems to rile you so. I get what your saying about showing the world that we are capable of staging such an event and doing the Olympics and it's grandiose history proud, I totally get that. Maybe it's to early and I might feel completely differently a day before the opening ceremony.... (infact I probably will) but right this minute, I'm not even thinking about the Olympics and I'll probably not give a sh*t until a week before the games begin and Olympic fever has hit the four corners of the UK. But be sure to remind me of this discussion (which I'm sure you will  ) if and when I start acting like an Olympic fanboy within the first 3 days of the games commencing and after all I've said. |

The flame passed through my town today, it did finally instill a bit of excitement in me too if am honest even though I was in work . I just like how everyone comes out and waves the flags etc, for or against the Olympics anything that brings a community together if you will is a great thing. Good to see generations young and old getting there spots on the pavements a few hours early, instills a bit of seldom seen national pride. |
