You can never read too much into sparring though.
There used to be a bloke here by the name of Jeff Harding, good fighter with more heart then ability, won a world title, beat Dennis Andries but would get beaten up in sparring against fellas with no more then 3 or 4 pro fights at times. Even amatuers would lace up with him and have him covered, he just couldn't pull it together in sparring for some reason. He usually followed them back to their cars issuing fights then and there out of frustration.
I've seen and read about others running cold in sparring over the years, expecially if the media had their tapes rolling, or if they believed a spy was in camp.
Others just plod along, saving their best work for the fight, others work on the negatives whilst others are driven by ego and go all out, sometimes leaving their best work in the gym.
