Hi guys going to see PAC v Bradley in Vegas next month. Completed my esta visa thing online yesterday and it immediately informed me I'm not authorised to travel to the states and I may have to apply for a paper visa? I have never had any criminal convictions or driving offences (school teacher) and answered no to all the relevant questions. Has this happend to anyone else? The 5 lads I'm going with all sailed through with their applications. Really appreciate any replies from those in the know . Thanks

No idea, I can't imagine why other than you have made a mistake, you just need to ring them and find out, no one here is going to know the answer

Thanks hoover. I just wondered if the same scenario had occurred to anyone else on here and how easy it was to resolve. The information online is brief to say the least!

I remember Bolton Dave saying he had to get a visa but that was due to a conviction, maybe message him and ask how much of a pain in the arse it was?

Try it again. Make sure you say no to all the criminal record dodgy questions!
Only answer the red star mandatory bits. It should be granted immediately if you have no convictions.

Make sure also that you are on the official website for ESTA. There are several money-making ones cashing in on this (or at least there were) https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

My mate ended up on one that was charging $60! He called me to ask if that was the right one since I already knew that the normal fee is around $14. I called the travel agents for him and got the right URL. No idea what that other one was.

I know a lass who had a similar problem, no convictions or anything. Give the embassy a ring with the reference number on your declined esta and they should be able to tell you why it has been declined. Theres every chance its a simple glitch in the system.
Getting a paper visa is quite an expensive thing to do and you can only go down on the date they give you for your appointment - theres every chance it will be a few weeks down the line too. At least if they can't help you at the original point of contact, they should be able to give you a date to go down but if you've no convictions for anything, you should get it approved with a phone call

Thanks for the help lads, I spoke to them on the phone and he pretty much said it could be a glitch given I answered every question no. I have since done it again (another 14 dollars thank u!) but have been approved! Vegas here I come!.. Wouldn't suprise me if I get the interrogation treatment once I land though!

Does anyone know, if you are arrested and charged with something in america does it effectively mean you will never be allowed back no matter what that something was?

Depends on if you are convicted and what the offense was. For some, not all, convictions you can be barred entry for life.
