I've just borrowed my sisters surround sound systems and it was superb

I don't really understand how they work or what set up is needed

The one unused only had 2 speakers and subwoofer. Wires had to go into the DVD player that is part of it.

I thought sound still came out of the tv but with this one it doesn't.

- Does surround sound work with normal sky TV .
- Is it easy to set up 5 speakers (is there a delay that needs to be done).
- Can surround sous be turned off.

What does it mean when it it described as pc home theatre systems ?  Can these be used with sky Tv ?

Also can anyone recommend a decent one not sure what price are .

I've seen these -  are they any good ?

Calling Red.......

Ok then, i'll tell you what he will say. Forget buying a PC system or any sort of all in one box system. Buy a surround amp/receiver, then get some speakers.

I had the same question at the start of the year mate and couldn't be happier with the advice I got on here. Went for an Onkyo amp, and some Boston Soundware 5.1 speakers. Fantastic. Even the missus loves it, at first she was not happy but now thinks it's brilliant.

Have you got optical connection between your amp and sky HD box now ?

Yes mate. It just recognises the Dolby D signal and automatically defaults when there is one. Can't fault it, even play the ipod music through it now.

I just got a velodyne woofer and pioneer receiver has AirPlay, Internet radio, 2 zone and a bunch of other stuff I don't use. I have a speaker outdoor and two in wall stereo speakers. It's awesome. Can play music outside and watch tv inside was advised against surround sound due to the set up of my living room.
I can control everything off my phone, wife's phone and tablet.

The whole thing installed was just above $1200. So thats the sub, reciever two in walls and one exterior speaker.

The reciever is a panosonic vsx 1021-k 7.1. It ran me $475.
The subwoofer is a Velodyne Impact 12 (i think) that ran me $325.
The speakers i haven't got a clue on. Because it was a collegue who installed and i did all the patch work to the walls i only really paid for his labour costs and got the components at cost from his boss.

Feel daft asking this but something is wrong.

Am I right in saying when you have surround sound on then the tv must be on mute ??

It's taken me 45 minutes of a film to realise something is not right ,

Yes, normally when hooked up via hdmi, the tv mutes itself as it realises a surround sound amp is connected.
