For all who are knocking Ortiz, Id be interested to see any of you continue to fight with a broken Jaw and win. Without fail theres always some ridicullous people on here knocking boxers for the most ridicullous reasons when in reality there probably sitting with a can of fosters and a size 40 waist.

It was a great fight and not one which deserved the outcome to be "Ortiz is a quitter" get a life and be more realistic.

And he had fractured ribs. I believe it was just his right hand but to knock out the guy is nothing short of amazing. If Ortiz's jaw was broken from the fourth and he tried to fight with the pain then he should be commended some.

Let's not forget...

Most of the people who are knocking Ortiz need to sit down when having a nose bleed.  A broken jaw would elicit the foetal position and sobbing for mercy.

Williams was a very good fighter fighting an ordinary domestic level opponent in Potter. That has to also be taken into account.

What a quitter.  Multiple breaks surely means the jaw moves easier with the punches.  It was an advantage, and he still quit!

Steve Forbes: Praying for my friend Victor Ortiz and fellow gladiator in this sport called boxing. He just got out of surgery..had multiple breaks.. but is doing well and resting.

Steve Forbes: and it was bad looking in the dressing room and at the hospital... he's overcome alot in life...believe me i talk to him quite a bit. he's gonna heal rest up and we'll see what happens. i dont know anyone who can endure the pain of multiple breaks..even talking with the doctor(which fans, reporters) dont get to do.. the doc said he had to be going through horrible pain...and it wasnt a one shot and thats it..for multiple breaks it had to have been broken earlier and more started breaking the longer it went.

Sounds pretty sick. If it kept breaking then fair enough.

Serious globs of blood were coming out of his mouth when he was on his stool too. Not normal bleeding, but that dark thick coagulated blood that normally insinuates that someone has a really bad injury.

That doesn't surprise me at all.  He just kept walking into monster hooks.

He really needs to sort his defense out.  Lopez couldn't miss when they were trading and he was really loading up.  Ortiz has a solid chin, a lot of those shots would have put most guys to sleep.  Most guys don't walk into those kind of shots repeatedly though.

Lopez couldn't miss with uppercuts all night.

Hold my hands up that i was wrong at the time but considering his history he was always going to get that reaction from some on here but that last left hook the tv replays kept showing was an absolute monster that would have knocked most guys out Victor is deffinately one tough SOB and one of my favourite fighters due to his all action style but as you say he needs to sort his defence out he's still young and doesn't need to shorten his career by taking shots like that.

The worrying thing for Ortiz is that he was battered by a guy who fought most of his career at Lightweight and wasn't a noted puncher coming into this fight.  I knew that putting him in with Alverez was a ridiculous idea but I thought he'd have too much for Lopez and get him out there in the second half of the fight.

if he was hurt in the 4th thats probably why he didnt get him out of there. I remember seeing garcia speaking to him in the corner and whispered 'its your time to prove yourself'. Whatever that meant and whether it was relating to the injury i dont know but there was bad signs from the off really.

as said before the fight was of great entertainment and i look forward to victor being back in the ring, maybe a rematch with lopez would be a good fight to make?

Good point.  I remember that too, was wondering why.  Would have thought this would have come out already though perhaps that's just poor PR management by team Ortiz.

All fighters can punch if they load up.  Even Paulie Malignaggi.  Lopez started swinging hard in the 4th and it worked as he couldn't miss.
