http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/article/24968/7871215/froch-set-for-bute-rematch

Froch bounced back from his defeat to American Andre Ward in the Super Six tournament final by sensationally stopping Bute in the fifth round of their contest at the Nottingham Arena in May.

But the Canada-based 32-year-old, who fell to his first loss as a professional, has taken up the option of using the rematch clause guaranteeing him a chance to reclaim his belts in Canada.

"Froch vs. Bute has already gone down as one of the greatest nights in British boxing history," said Froch's promoter Eddie Hearn.

"It generated record television audiences and a sold-out arena where fans were treated to what many respected pundits and fighters have described as one of the best atmospheres ever felt in a British fight.

"Of course, like any fighter Lucian is keen to avenge this defeat and as per our agreement has the opportunity to try to make that happen.

"Both myself and Lucian's promoter Jean Bedard feel that it is the best interests of both fighters and any future rematch that both fighters will take an interim fight later this year.

"Froch vs. Bute II in Montreal is a massive event and I'm sure that impressive victories for both men later this year will add further fuel to the fire."

Bute was being touted as a future opponent for Ward to decide the best fighter in the 168lb division but the loss has dented those plans.

He does not think he did himself justice in May but is relishing the opportunity to fight on his home patch next year.

"That was not the real Lucian Bute in that Nottingham ring on May 26," he said.

"I spent the last few weeks reflecting about what went wrong, what happened, and the only thing that is crystal clear in my mind is that I want my rematch with Carl Froch as soon as possible."

Froch's opponent later this year is yet to be decided but the 35-year-old has made no secret of his desire to take on Mikkel Kessler again after the Dane handed him his first professional loss in 2010.

A close unanimous points decision separated the two fighters in Herning, where Froch feels Kessler was awarded a hometown decision to win the Englishman's WBC super-middleweight crown.

Kessler went on to take a sabbatical from the sport in order to heal an eye problem but returned to action last year after nearly 14 months out and has knocked out fringe contenders Mehdi Bouadla and Allan Green in the process.

I like Froch but if the real Bute shows up and can avoid a flush to the jaw, he takes it points for me.

Tbh Bute took some big shots in the 1st and 2nd rounds. He was ok with them but when Froch started to throw power combos that was the end for Bute.

Yeah, he just looked shell shocked in Nottingham, not a good traveler by the looks of it.

I dont think anyone will ever do that to Bute ever again. Stil favour froch in rematch but not that dominant.

Yeah thats a good shout, two punches will really be important in the rematch, Froches lunging uppercuts and that little cute body shot Bute throws. Both have mastered them.

"That was not the real Lucian Bute in that Nottingham ring on May 26," he said.

Of course it wasn't that's because the real Lucian Bute is back in Montreal with 16'000 people screaming his name while he bowls over has beens and never gonna be's.

To think before Froch took Bute over his knee he was ranked the best super middleweight in the world by most 'respected' rankings is a crime. I hope the loss to Froch has shattered his confidence so which ever journeyman they pick for this 'interim' fight in Montreal stops him making a very undeserved fortune in the rematch.

What gave it away?  Grin

But let's be fair the guy has conned his way into a 2 fight fortune with Froch. Lucian Bute could retire a very rich man after this potential rematch with Froch at age 32/33 and what has he done to warrant it knocking over Jesse Brinkley? So what so did Joe Spina and i bet his bank account resembles the depths of Bute's living room sofa.

Bute had no defence when under pressure at all. Froch's offence wasn't particularly fast, sneaky or unpredictable but when he had Bute on the ropes he flailed away with roundhouse punches and couldn't miss him. The man fell apart and Carl will hit him on the chin again in a rematch for sure.

"Bute will fight better" , "Bute wasn't himself"

Already the apologists have started humming the above.

I said from the start, Bute 'thinks' he is the goods, that so far his choice of opposition havent made him think otherwise. Froch would be asking questions straight away and when the cracks appear, Froch will split them wide open.

I admit even I was surprised how effective Carl was on the night.

People like the bookies were choosing an unproven fighter over a proven one. Not only that, one who has never travelled.

Even now people are whispering "ooh a rematch will be a lot closer!"

Froch has fought abroad than at home in the last 3-4 years. He has already utterly crushed him. Bute will be nervous of getting hit & hurt and will get docked points for holding before Froch punishes him yet again.

A win is nailed on.
