Negotiations are reportedly close to being finalised for Carl Froch to defend his IBF super-middleweight title against Tommy Oosthuizen in America.

The unbeaten 24-year-old is a rising star in the 168lb division although would be seen as an easy option for Froch following a succession of title fights against the very best.

Froch, who has already lined up rematches with Lucien Bute and Mikkel Kessler in 2013, has been approached by Oosthuizen's promoters with view to taking up a voluntary defence later this year.

An October return seems likely for the Nottingham bomber, who looks set to go on the road again following his sensational homecoming fight against Bute in May.

But South African Oosthuizen will be no pushover. The 6ft 4in 24-year-old has 20 wins and a draw on his resume and defended his IBO strap on Friday, winning a unanimous decision against Rowland Bryant in New York.

Other possible opponents thought to be in the mix included Kelly Pavlik, although efforts to bring the American to the UK appear to have foundered.

Be dissapointing if Carl took this to america, I would be worried about ticket sales to be honest anywhere outside of the UK.

I could only envisage it being chief support on a big card Stateside.  I can't say that I'd be likely to head over for a fight against Oosthuizen with it being in the run up to Christmas again.

I don't think many would mate.

I still think Carl would be main event but he would be looking at a small sized hall with a couple of thousand attendance, obviosuly he is known in the states now but as Khan proved that does not mean you sell tickets.

If it did go main event I think it'd have to be on something like an spam FNF card with a South African opponent.

Hopefully it's just rumour and nothing more as it'd be a shame for him to fight in front of a small crowd in the US when he'd probably get close to filling the Ice Arena or Wembley Arena over here.

So instead of selling out nottingham arena with Pavlik he's looking at fighting a nobody infront of a few hundred in the states...? Hope for everyone's sake this isn't true. If it is true i want to know who this guy is and what's he done with the real Carl Froch.

Seeing this story came from Sky and their relationship with Carl and Matchroom you would think this is true rather than a rumour sadly!

Cannot see how this would make any sense. In terms of gate, tv coverage and fans. 100% won't be going over to the states for it. Would prefer to break my self saving to get the Montreal.

On the other hand if its in Nott's, I can gurantee a sell out, good coverage on sky etc
