As I've said previously, I've only started getting into boxing the past 12-18 months. Got a book recommendation from this forum, Four Kings, and I f***ing love it. Half way through it in about a week (which is slow, but good for me). I've always known the name 'Sugar Ray Leonard', but I didn't know how much of a great boxer he was. Best bit so far is SRL forcing Duran to quit late in the fight. 'No mas!'.

Anyone else read it?

Read most of it, an excellent book. I would recommend Roberto Duran's biography 'Hands of Stone' by Christian Giudice if you want to find out more about the 'No Mas' incident, aswell as Duran's fascinating background and legendary career.

Three chapters to go. Wish I was there for the Hagler-Hearns fight like! Three rounds (I think it was) of absolute war.

To the poster who suggested Hands of Stone, I've bought it for myself for xmas.

Have you seen the fight of Hagler v Hearns on youtube etc? It was like a pub fight, 2 boxers determined to hurt the other and win. Absolute quality, makes some fights look like a dance competition (McDonagh v Small 4 one). One of the best 3 rounds you will see.

This is a must for you: Roberto Duran 'Beyond the Glory' http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=roberto+duran&emb=0#q=roberto+duran&emb=0&qvid=roberto+duran&vid=3110954272153171674&dur=3&view=2

If the link doesn't work just go to google videos, type in roberto duran (over 20 mins). Great watch. Haven't read the book but will do when I have time.

Here also an interesting story about the (in)famous 'No mas'

'In the November re-match, however, Durán shockingly quit. Leonard has said that his strategy was to use speed and agility to taunt and frustrate Durán, believing it was his best chance of winning the fight.[6] In round 8, Durán turned around, walked to his corner and gave up, supposedly saying the now famous words, "no más" (no more). However, he claims to have actually said, "No quiero pelear con el payaso." (Meaning "I do not want to fight with this clown.") Another version of events has him saying, in Spanish, "I can't continue". Referee Octavio Meyran, perhaps as incredulous as was the rest of the world at what he was seeing, asked Durán if he was sure, and Durán then said, "No más, no más" (no more, no more). In violation of what any professional fighter does on the day of a fight, Durán gorged himself after the weigh-in, claimed he quit because he was having stomach cramps.[3] The controversy regarding this bout continues to be a mystery.'

I think one of the best boxing books I've read is Nigel Benn's autobiography. It's balls to the wall!

I got Duran's auto, it's a good read.

I nearly bought it the other day, but is it truthfull? Autobios have often been a bit of a lie in the past.
