We can all recall Bowe going through extremes to get out of that fight what with publicly binning the WBC strap!
He was literally crapping himself at the thought of having to fight Lewis.

Bowe would have got eaten if the Lewis who beat Ruddock, Tua and Tyson had fought him How old was Tyson then? Maybe sixty... Tua was very limited, slow and too short to reach Lewis. Ruddock was only a gatekeeper and can't mentioned in the same breath with Bowe. Even his win against Mercer was very controversial. Riddick Bowe would have been the clear favourite after his first victory over Holyfield and Lewis was inexperienced at world level then.

Just as Lewis when he was supposed to fight Byrd.

Sorry, but that's the silliest statement ever made on this forum.

It's a matter of fact that Lennox Lewis vacated the IBF title (like Riddick Bowe the WBC one), because he didn't want fight vs. Chris Byrd.

I think you know you're talking nonsense don't you! Whilst Chris Byrd will go down as one of the most fearsome HW's ever , i'm not sure Lewis was afraid to fight him. It may have had something to do with the fact no one outside his own has had fookin heard of him!!! No fame, no money, no real chance of beating Lewis.... hence no point.

You know what I find sad?...That us lot have to debate this without ever knowing the answer. We should've got to see that fight. That would've been big. C'est La Vie...
Still, we can't blame Lennox. We can all recall Bowe going through extremes to get out of that fight what with publicly binning the WBC strap!
Good post and I have to agree its a fight I would have loved to have seen. I have said this before on this forum but the 90's in the heavyweight division had some terrific fighters.

Bowe could make more money in a rematch vs. Holyfield rather than against Lewis, because he's a Euro boxer.

I have no argument with that but history tells us that Bowe did not vacate the title to take a rematch with Holyfield. After binning the WBC strap, Bowe firstly fought against Michael Dokes, then Jesse Ferguson.... and THEN he fought Holyfield. I know you are not a fan of Lewis Gul but surely even you will concede that Dokes and Ferguson were not in the same league as Lennox. I'm also guessing that those two fights would've been no where near as lucrative considering the bad blood between Lewis & Bowe dating back to the Seoul Olympics.
