The shop will have to pay an admin fee for carrying out credit checks, they are probably just trying it on. Or didn't want to offer a young lad a contract.

All mobile phone contracts will require a credit check, this will be done by the registrations department of the service provider eg orange. They will get a score back and then that tells them how good a customer your likely to be, Orange use equifax and experian. You will have to have one done if you want a contract phone, nowt to worry about.

Please bear in mind that every time the companies to a credit check on you the score goes down, so if you fail a credit check with orange your likely to with voda etc and each time you try it lowers your credit rating so dont go from shop to shop

yes thats exact, they just tryed orange yesterday and it failed was in today for a couple of hours  Sad and the only 1 that passed me was 3G but what they had to offer me was aloud of rubbish and could only pick from about 5 out of 100 phones, the way to get around it is to take out a sim only contract for 6 months and after 3 months upgrade to a contract, the reason i wanted a contract was to get a new decent phone as the 1 i have got is broke. does anybody know another way around this?

If you look on the web theres tips to improve your credit rating, even little things such as having a landline telephone in your ne can help. When i got my 1st contract at 18 I was turned down at voda from the credit check, then 15 minutes later passed the check at O2, bare in mind though it was easier to get credit back then.
