Rumours that ITV are to pull out of boxing after Christmas is more bad news for WBC champion Carl Froch.
He is now unlikely to box until early September, possibly October.
Against who and where are two major questions that remain to be answered.
Negotiations for a unification fight with IBF champion Lucian Bute have apparently stalled.
This has rekindled in talk of a showdown with the veteran Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas.
Froch wants to fight Bute at the City Ground in Nottingham. But the British weather would rule out a fight that late in the year. Nottingham fight fans might have to trek down to the O2 arena for that one.
Not so long ago, Froch wasn't too keen on meeting Hopkins, who wanted a fight at catchweight. Now he seems all for it. Far from wanting his next fight on home ground, he apparently fancies a trip to Vegas.
"He's someone I would love to fight," said Froch.
Showtime would obviously love that fight. But would cash-strapped Setanta? Or ITV, who turned down Froch's last fight with Jermain Taylor - belatedly screening it the following day.
Personally, old man Hopkins is the last man I want to see Froch fight. What's the point?
The 56-fight veteran may be 44 but he is still dangerous - just ask Kelly Pavlik. He's also a spoiler.
Froch says he only wants meaningful fights and to unify titles.
But the only reasons for taking a fight with Hopkins are American tv exposure and money.
