Chisora vs Klitschko December 11

30.09.10

The current British and Commonwealth Heavyweight champion, Derek 'Del Boy' Chisora has reportedly agreed to face Wladimir Klitschko on December 11th in Germany.

Unbeaten Chisora (14-0, 9ko) has been reported by the Daily Mail to have agreed to the bout with the current IBF and WBO world champion.

Many feel the Zimbabwe born, London based heavyweight is still too green for the dominant champion, but with a big pay day and even bigger exposure, it's likely 'Del Boy' has nothing to lose and everything to gain by challenging the division's No1 man.

If indeed true, for such a novice-pro, his guts and ambition wouldn't be questioned.

Haye vs Harrison to be broadcast in 3D

30.09.10

Sky Sports have officially confirmed that the WBA world heavyweight title showdown between David Haye and Audley Harrison on Saturday, November 13, will be the world's first ever boxing match televised live in 3D.

Fight fans purchasing the clash on Sky Box Office are set to witness a 'three-dimensional beating', claims champion Haye.

“This is great news for British boxing fans, but terrible news for Audley Harrison,” said Haye, 24-1 (22 KO) in his professional career. “Audley was going to have a hard enough time keeping up with me as it is, but now he's got no chance in 3D. He's going to feel like he's just walked in mid-way through Inception. He'll think he's being surrounded.

“For a man as mentally delicate as Audley, the added pressure of 3D could tip him over the edge. The last thing a paranoid schizophrenic wants is things jumping out at him.”

Belt-holder Haye has been vocal in his belief that Harrison will be swiftly dispatched when the pair meet at Manchester's M.E.N. Arena, but now, with the addition of a third dimension, is even more excited about a potential knockout.

“This fight is going to be a three-dimensional beating of a one-dimensional challenger,” warned Haye. “In addition to the 3D glasses, fight fans ordering this bout should be given a sick bag and an inhaler. They won't just be watching a beat-down on screen, they'll now be able to feel every punch, thanks to the beauty of 3D.

“I can assure everybody that watches the fight in 3D that, at some point during the fight, Audley Harrison will land on your lap in a crumpled heap.“I have no doubt Audley will be seeing three of me once I land my right hand on his jaw - and that's got nothing to do with the glasses.”

Froch: I will show Abraham the Northern Lights

HELSINKI TO HOST DECISIVE SUPER SIX CLASH BETWEEN FROCH AND ABRAHAM ON NOVEMBER 27

LONDON (Sept. 27, 2010)– SHOWTIME Sports, Hennessy Sports and Team Sauerland are delighted to announce that Helsinki will host the decisive Super Six World Boxing Classic Group Stage 3 clash between Carl “The Cobra” Froch and King Arthur Abraham. On November 27, the two superstars will lock horns at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, which seats 14,000 people and is known for its passionate Finnish sports fans.

The fight was originally scheduled for Monaco but Froch was forced to pull out two weeks ago when he informed Showtime that a back injury would force him to sit out training for four weeks. Due to a scheduling conflict at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille in Monaco, the event has been moved to Finland. “We are pleased to have finalized all details,” promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “Helsinki will host the fight of the year. I am sure that I speak on behalf of boxing fans all over the world that cannot wait to see these two gladiators in the ring. King Arthur will cement his place in the semi-finals in this great Olympic City and one of the most impressive arenas in the world.”

Mick Hennessy said. “This is the fight that everyone is waiting to see, Helsinki is going to experience one of the most explosive sporting events of the year, these two fierce warriors will be going toe to toe as both have everything to prove and great pride at stake. I am confident that on the 27th November Carl will be victorious in a potential fight of the decade candidate and show everyone that he is still the best 168lb fighter in the World.“

It will be all or nothing for both fighters, who need a victory to guarantee their spot in the Super Six semi-finals. King Arthur started the tournament with a spectacular KO over Jermain Taylor before a highly controversial disqualification loss against Andre Dirrell in Detroit. Froch had defended his WBC Super-Middleweight title against Dirrell in the tournament´s first fight but then suffered the first loss of his career in April 2010 when Danish hero Mikkel Kessler clinched a point’s victory in Denmark.

The “Cobra” is already in a fighting mood. "Abraham has been declaring that the Kessler fight has deeply affected me,” said Froch. "He's right. It has given me even more confidence! With late cancellations and a last minute flight under a volcanic ash cloud, I can still step into the lion's den in front of 12,000 crazy Vikings and punch holes in their hero for 12 solid rounds of non-stop action. I was unlucky not to get the nod - but I've proved I'm world class on any stage, home or away. Whereas Abraham got beaten up and outclassed by Andre Dirrell, a man I have already beaten. Against Taylor and Kessler I've proved I'm the road warrior - whereas when Abraham is out of the home comfort zone, he gets exposed! He'll be able to see the 'Northern Lights' from the canvas when I've finished with him in Finland."

King Arthur has laughed off Froch´s latest verbal attack, voicing serious concern about his opponent´s mental state. “He claimed to have problems with his back. I think he has even bigger problems with his head. Judging from his dubious comments, it looks as if he has lost his senses. But I will be more than happy to put him back to reality with my fists come November 27. I look forward to fighting in Helsinki and will promise fight fans in Finland and all over the world an explosive evening.”

Ticket information will be available shortly.

On the same night, WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell will battle out their Group Stage 3 clash in America at a venue to be announced. The matchup between breakout American stars and friends will be contested for Ward’s WBA championship and the newly vacated WBC belt, adding yet another dramatic layer to an already captivating fight. Ward has already locked up his Semifinal berth, but will be protecting his title and undefeated professional record. Dirrell, conversely, needs a win to guarantee his place in the Semis. Dirrell conceivably could get in with two points but he would need help from fellow tournament competitors.

Allan Green, whose Group Stage 3 bout with Mikkel Kessler was waylaid when Kessler withdrew from competition with an eye injury, has left the perennial contender without an opponent. A decision on Green’s Group Stage 3 bout is expected in the coming days.
The third and final Group Stage will complete the round-robin portion of the tournament and determine the four fighters who will advance to the single-elimination Semi-finals. Through the first two Stages, the WBA world champion Ward is the only fighter to have secured a berth in the Semis. No fighter has been eliminated from contention creating a virtual win-or-go-home scenario for each of the men. SHOWTIME Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Hershman said: “We have asked these fighters to challenge themselves against the best fighters in the world; not in one mega-fight, but in a consecutive series of career defining fights. Injuries and delays are inevitable. However, each one of them has accepted the challenge and brought a level of intensity to the ring that, in my estimation, is unmatched in all of sports. We are still on pace to complete the tournament in 2011, at which time we will have delivered to boxing fans around the world a number of the most compelling and meaningful matches in the sport. So, the drama continues with all the fighters’ still alive heading to Group Stage 3. I couldn’t have scripted this any better.”

Warren disappointed with Hatton ruling on ban

25.09.10

Frank Warren says the British Boxing Board of Control did not go far enough in stripping Ricky Hatton of his boxing licence.

The former world champion was also fined following a News of the World story that he took cocaine.

But he was allowed to carry on holding his promoters licence after a hearing this week.

"It's alright for me to take cocaine and promote fights or for any promoter to do that, there's no problem, you keep your licence," Warren told Hawksbee and Jacobs.

"He needs to get himself well and the facts are that he's not running his company, they're talking about other people running the company who are certainly not licensed under Hatton Promotions.

"He should be focusing on dealing with his drink problem and his drug problem but the drink problems, as I've said before, have been there for a number of years.

"The Board of Control chose to do nothing about it, they continue to licence him in the last couple of years and it was well documented in newspapers that he was drinking a lot. It's a cop out.

"He didn't even attend the hearing – that is ridiculous. How can you have a hearing and the guy who is accused doesn't even attend?

"What they should have done is suspend him until he finished with his rehab and then called him and dealt with it properly. It's a bad message that is sent out."

Warren considering Klitschko offer for Chisora

25.09.10

British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora has been offered a surprise shot at IBF and WBO heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko

Chisora and promoter Frank Warren are currently considering the offer, which may prove too good an opportunity to turn down.

The Londoner impressed Wladimir's team with his stoppage win over Sam Sexton last Saturday.

And they believe he could be the ideal opponent for the giant Ukrainian in December.

Klitschko is scheduled to box then but does not yet have an opponent, and there is no obvious choice.

Chisora, 26, has had 14 fights, winning them all, with nine early wins.

His victory over Sexton should help him to break into the top 10 of at least one of the big four governing bodies.

Exclusive Froch : Abraham is an obstinate midget

25.09.10

LiveFight.com caught up with Carl Froch to discuss news that his revised date with Abraham in Monaco, has now been re-located to Helsinki on November 27th.

Froch believes Pascal would also beat Abraham

The Cobra was in vociferous mood and before we could engage into a question and answer scenario, the Nottingham fighter launched straight into addressing the recent comments made by Arthur Abraham.

“Abraham is gonna get pounded. You can be damn sure of that. The fact he’s saying that I’ve lost my head, actually gives me a lot of confidence.” Said Froch.

Abraham was recently in the press, questioning if Froch's defeat to Kessler has affected him, the German- Armenian also questioned Froch's injury withdrawal.

“The bottom line is, I went toe to toe in Kessler’s back yard against a man fighting for his life, Kessler was fighting for his whole livelihood. Sure the decision didn’t go my way but I came out of that fight with respect from everyone who witnessed it.

“It’s not a cake walk to step out in front of 12,000 odd crazy Vikings and try to punch holes in their hero. But afterwards the Dane’s knew that I was no joke.

Hartwall Areena - Helsinki

“Wheras when you look at Abraham’s trip to see Dirrell in a half-empty arena and you saw a man get beaten up, decked and outclassed by a man who ran for 12 rounds against me.” Said Froch.

Livefight.com asked Froch if his opinion of Abraham was turning from respect, into venom.

“I paid him his dues at first, but the reality he’s not what he’s cracked up to be. To be a complete fighter you need to be able to produce the goods not just at home, but on the road too.

“When you take Arthur out of his Berlin comfort zone he gets dusted and Dirrell proved it. At the end of the day, I’ve shown against Jermain Taylor and Mikkel Kessler that I can be effective on the road, wheras Abraham’s confidence has been shell shocked. It's one thing knocking over nobodies at middleweight and the referee wrapping him up in cotton wool like a spoilt brat, but you need to be able to take the show on the road and he can't at Super middleweight.

“He thought he was the man and many around him thought the same. But he was exposed and he wakes up every morning, struggling to deal with that. When Arthur is posing in his Ferrari, sitting on his booster cushion, people say 'Yeah, did you see his last fight? he got more hammer than a nail' and he knows that's what they are saying, that he is a loser. I was handed a loss, wheras he was handed his ass.

Abraham used to call himself Smurf King

"That’s why when Monaco hit the skids he refused point blank to entertain Ireland. “ said Froch. "He's a secret moaner. He's all smiles but he is a prima donna. He can wear his feathery jacket to our fight if wants because I'm going to stuff him like a chicken... obstinate midget. Seriously and genuinely - he thinks he is a king, but we all know he's a smurf.

"I've beaten better men than Abraham has, my record speaks for itself. There isn't anyone he has fought who I couldn't beat. But people like Pascal and Dirrell, Abraham wouldn't beat and hasn't beat." concluded Froch.

Livefight.com asked him about Ireland and whether or not alternatives to Helsinki had been sought.

“The Odyssey Arena in Belfast was up for grabs, but Abraham turned it down point blank. I think the Excel was also floating around but Arthur said absolutely not. Even Saulerland was happy with that one as he lives round the corner, but Abraham said no categorically.

“The 02 in Dublin was on the radar, but unfortunately some Xfactor band is on when the TV dates were agreed.

“So here we are now, heading off to Finland on November the 27th. Saulerland are putting it together for Helsinki and it’s all pretty much been agreed.“ said Froch.

LiveFight.com finally asked Froch about his back injury.

“I’ve resumed light training yesterday to feel it out. There would be no way I’d be at my peak for Monaco as it still aches now but is miles better than a couple of weeks ago. This is a fight I need to tip top for, to book my place in the final. And I’m done with giving opponents half a chance to beat me because I’ve got a dodgy eye or a broken rib. I owe it to my fans more than anything to get in there and blow this joker away.”
