Brian Magee set to challenge Lucian Bute for IBF crown
Sources close to Brian Magee claim that he will be officially unveiled as Lucian Bute's challenger, as part of the IBF champion's new Showtime TV contract.
Magee, who has only previously lost to Carl Froch and Robin Reid has enjoyed a productive year after he captured the European title in emphatic fashion by dismantling Mads Larsen in Denmark.
The Belfast southpaw has compiled a record of 34-3 (24ko) and whilst described as 'chinny' by some quarters, the Irishman has got off the canvas to complete every fight, with the exception of a fierce war with Carl Froch for the British title back in 2006 at the York Hall. But with 24 stoppages of his own, he can also punch and has good speed and boxing ability.
Magee had anticpated the be challenging for Sartison's 'standard' WBA title in the new year and has also seen himself called out by James Degale in the last week.
But the Showtime purse, opportunity and exposure afforded by this shot seems to good to turn down and an official statement is forecast for Friday this week.
