Warren impatient over Degale vs Groves

Frank Warren has decided to put his Olympian James Degale on the undercard of the Ricky Burns world title defence in Scotland this coming Saturday night.

Degale will be fighting with only a calendar month to spare before his scheduled fight with domestic rival George Groves, who incidentally also boxed just last Saturday in a stay busy fight against an African visitor.

But Warren seemed impatient when asked about their impending April 9th Showdown.

"At the moment, nothing has been done. The purse bid was won by Dave Coldwell at David Haye promotions and that's where it is." said Warren.

"No venue has been announced. We heard it was going on at the Olympia but nothing since. I can't have James sitting around waiting. I have got to get my man out, he has got to fight.

"Coldwell has a contract that we have signed for the fight on the 9th April. There are no politics from us. If you put a purse bid in and you win, you do it on the intention of promoting the fight.

"It is probably the biggest purse bid for a domestic fight, including the heavyweight division."

Degale, who has not boxed since his stoppage win over Paul Smith back in December stated "I'm still a novice to the professional scene, I need the rounds and I need the fights, I have got to stay active."

Other rumours suggest that Coldwell will hand over the promotional duties to Warren and incorporate the event as the chief undercard fight in London to bolster Welshman Nathan Celverly's WBO world title attempt in May. After conclusion of the London card it's been reported that Sky will then broadcast Carl Froch's fight with Glen Johnson from the States as part of a bumper pay per view box office event.
