CANADA:- Unbeaten IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute looks to make a splash this Saturday as part of his new bumper fight deal with Showtime.

Bute, who has received plaudits for his skills yet criticized for his opposition of late, will be taking on Belfast's Brian Magee who currently holds the EBU European title.

In a battle of the southpaws, the event will be held at the at the Bell Centre in Montreal, where Bute has fought 18 times now from 27 fights.

Bute has finished six of his last seven opponents early, including Edison Miranda and Librado Andrade. His last outing was against Contender star Jess Brinkey back in October, who Bute knocked out in the ninth round.

Ranked at number two in the Ring Magazine listings, only Andre Ward stands above him.

Magee however is looking at crashing the Bute party and is coming to Canada to win. But a homewtown decision against him is playing on his mind.

Brian Magee

"No matter what, when you fight abroad, you’re always going to have that in the back of your mind. The way I look at it, I just go in there, and do the best I can, and hope everybody else sees the fight the same way. I can’t worry about that until that night. It’s out of my hands." said Magee

"Favoritism always goes to the local fighter, but I can’t worry about it until it actually happens."

But if Lucian is firing on all cylinders then many believe there will be no need for the judge's intervention, as the Romanian-born fighter looks to make an impressive statement on his Showtime championship boxing debut.

Also, on the undercard, light middleweight prospect Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan (28-0,17ko) makes his Montreal debut, when he faces hard-punching Mexican Bladimir Hernandez (18-4,16ko).
