Groves vs Degale face to face

Groves and Degale face off

Arch enemies George Groves and James Degale faced-off today at the press conference announcing their British & Commonwealth unification fight had been added to the 02 bill,Welshman headed by Nathan Cleverly who challenges for Juergen Braehmer's WBO light heavyweight title on April 21st at the 02 Arena, London.

Groves (12-0, 10ko) famously beat Degale as an amateur, before the latter headed to Beijing to bag the middleweight gold medal.

Ever since then the pair have been calling each other out in the media wherever possible. The fight bids were won by Dave Coldwell (head of boxing for Hayemaker Promotions who look after the Hammersmith based Groves).

But now the card will be promoted by Frank Warren after a negotiation between the two parties - and will be broadcast on Sky Sports as part of a bumper night of boxing, with the possibility of Carl Froch's WBC Super middleweight title defence against Glen Johnson being added to the bill, live from America in the early hours following the 02 event.

In other news, reports of the original chief undercard fight between John Murray and Kevin Mitchell has rumoured to have been now pencilled in for a May date, with venues including Queens Park Ranger's football ground being in the running.
