Dirrell seeking warm-up fight in July
Andre 'the Matrix' Dirrell is getting ready to make a return to the ring, ironically on ESPN according to comments made by his promoter Gary Shaw.
Dirrell has not fought since his DQ victory over Arthur Abraham in the Showtime Super Six tournament.
It was alleged that he suffered 'neurological' damage as a result of the cheap shot thrown by Abraham as Dirrell was on the canvas following a slip.
Many thought the excuse was unconvincing and under the rules of the Showtime contract, if a fighter withdraws from the tournament, then he cannot compete again until the Super Six has been concluded.
Perhaps with the final participants being known by the close of June, this allows Dirrell the opportunity to resurrect his career - albeit on a separate television channel.
Calls for a fight with Lucian Bute, who recently signed with Showtime have been roundly ignored by the network and the IBF champion.
