According to industry reports long-term friendly rival and stablemate Tony Bellew has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant spot to fight Nathan Cleverly this coming Saturday at the 02.
Now the grapevine is rumbling that his offer has been considered and accepted by his promoter Frank Warren.
Bellew is 6lb over the limit and confident he can hit the magic 175lb weight limit with ease by Friday and has been in camp himself for his impending fight with Ovill McKenzie.
It will be some good news for the travelling Clev fans as their trip looked to be marred by the no-show German who has been stripped of his WBO crown for failing to board the plane.
