VIDEO: Rico Ramos poleaxes WBA champion Shimoda

Californian challenger Rico Ramos flattened Japan’s WBA champion Akifumi Shimoda last night and ripped off his Super Bantamweight title in the process.

The Japanese fighter had decided to break the trend of fighting at home and venture overseas to defend his strap - and was well on the way to doing so, after bossing the lion's share of the action from the get go.

But round 7 saw southpaw Shimoda drop his right hand and was tagged hard and cleanly with a huge left hook by the otherwise pedestrian looking Ramos.

Shimoda tried to valiantly rise to his feet but stumbled and was waved off by the referee Benjy Esteves Jr.

Ramos improves to 20-0 (11ko) whilst Shimoda drops to 23-3-1 (10ko).
