Bute vs Johnson fails to ignite

Canadian Super Middleweight Lucian Bute was supposed to answer lots of questions posed by veteran Glen Johnson last night at Pepsi Colosseum in Quebec.
But the 'Road Warrior' failed to commit to his punches and was happy to paw with the jab and wait around looking for a target to present itself for his right hand, which of course the undefeated IBF champion failed to oblige.
Previously against Allan Green and Carl Froch, the old 'Oak Tree' brought his A-game and tried to knock his opponent out. Heavily-drained Green was finally put away by Johnson in 8 rounds, but Froch took everything Johnson had to offer and returned fire with gusto, in a decent semi-final encounter of Showtime's Super Six tournament.
However last night's performance was pretty forgettable. Some could argue Bute simply showed his dominance. The majority felt Johnson's effort and decision to box his way through the rounds, were both poor by his own standards.
Scores of 108-120, 109-119 and 108-120 were recorded, but unfortunately this fight was no Froch vs Abraham or Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy.
Super Middlweight fans can only hope that December 17th's long awaited Super Six Final can deliver their fix. Then hopefully Bute will be properly tested by the victor.
