Bradley halts Casamayor in 8
By Lee Skavydis
Casamayor never looked to be in the fight as he held Bradley whenever he could early in the fight and most notably when Bradley got in close range. By the third round, the crowd let the fighters know of their displeasure as they began to 'boo' the contest. Bradley looked the aggressor throughout and referee, Vic Drakulich deducted a point from Casamayor in the fourth round for holding.
In the fifth, Bradley found a right hand to the stomach that sent Casamayor down for the count but he managed to rise to continue. At this point, Bradley, the former holder of the WBC crown, began to focus on body shots and he unloaded with left and right hooks while Casamayor's back was against the ropes. From here on, Bradley began to bully the 40 year old Cuban and looked much the stronger fighter.
The end came in the eighth when all the punishment had finally caught up with Casamayor and he was looking weary. Bradley finally put him out of his misery with a left hook to the body and his foe went down again and this time his corner his corner let Draculich know that they didn't want their man to continue taking unnecessary punishment and the fight was called to a halt to award Bradley the WBO light-welterweight title.
Bradley improves to 28-0 whilst the Cuban falls to 38-6-1.
