13.12.07 Malignaggi offers Hatton title fight

Paul Malignaggi has offered Ricky Hatton the chance to win back his old IBF world light-welterweight title at Madison Square Garden, New York, next year.

Malignaggi is willing to give Hatton the opportunity to win the IBF crown for a third time after the Manchester boxer was stopped by Floyd Mayweather on Sunday. New Yorker Malignaggi, 27, makes his first defence against Canada's Herman Ngoudjo on January 5 and then hopes to face Hatton in what would be another American blockbuster for the popular Briton.

Hatton, 29, suffered his first pro loss when Mayweather cut him down in the 10th for the American's WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas. Hatton now intends to step back down to light-welterweight where he had established himself as the world No.1 and Malignaggi is offering the chance of another multimillion pound pay-day.

He said: "I would love to fight Hatton. I'm ready for it whenever he wants to step up to the plate. Ricky keeps saying he wants to fight at Madison Square Garden and, if he's going to fight at junior welterweight, I'm certainly the guy you have to fight at the Garden.

"I'm ready to give him another chance to take back what he never lost, but will never hold again. He's got everybody fooled. He seems like a cool guy, but as a fighter he's nothing."
