Darch says he'll go after Joshua from the first bell

Dorian Darch, the next opponent in line for Anthony Joshua, says he will attack the Olympic gold medallist with everything he’s got when they meet at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on Saturday.

The 29-year-old from Aberdare last fought Hughie Fury, an equally impressive heavyweight prospect and Darch pushed him to the final bell over six rounds.

Darch, who has a (7-2, 1KO) professional record, insists Joshua will have to be at his very best as he plans to push the 24-year-old to the limit like when he frustrated Fury.

“That’s what I intend to do because I never take a backwards step,” he told Livefight at today's final press conference for the 'Reloaded' show on Saturday.

“That’s how I intend to start against Joshua because even though he’s a big lump, I’m not going to beat him on the back foot trying to box him. He’s long and his levers are too big so I’m just going to go out there and do my job.

“I took the Hughie Fury fight with one week's notice so I was only fit up to a certain point. I wasn’t six rounds fit but this time I’m going to go for it from the first bell.”

Joshua has knocked out his previous three opponents and even though Darch admits he has a tendency to neglect his defence, he is adamant to prove he is a tough early test for the Watford fighter.

“Joshua’s a massive guy with a massive reach and he’s a big, strong bloke,” he said.

“Sometimes I neglect to keep my hands up and protect myself a lot of the time but I will obviously not do that for this fight. I’ve just got to keep my hands up and attack him rather than going into the fight with my hands down because he’ll knock me out. That would be very stupid.”

Darch is expecting great support from his Welsh fans after he presumes they will be celebrating a glorious Six Nations victory over Italy for the rugby team.

However, he added that he is looking forward to finishing the fight so he can spend time out of the gym with his wife and his newborn daughter.

“I’ve sold 230 tickets and it’s going to be a great atmosphere in my home country. Most of the boys I know are coming down after the rugby in the day so they’ll all be steaming no doubt and screaming and shouting so it’ll be a great night.

“I’ve just had a new baby so I’m just going to get through this fight and then I’m going to enjoy the time I have with the Mrs and the baby before I fight again so this will be my last fight for a while.”
