19.12.07 Witter wants Malignaggi fight

JUNIOR WITTER has set his sights on a unification bout with IBF light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Witter, 33, is keen to face fellow Brit Ricky Hatton — but only after he adds Malignaggi's title to his WBC crown.

And the Hitter has told the New Yorker he will be happy to meet him on his own turf at Madison Square Garden.

Witter said: "Madison Square Garden is the ultimate place to fight.

"It would be amazing to box in the home of the sport.

"These days everybody is boxing in Las Vegas, which is absolutely brilliant and has become the new draw.

"But as a fighter who respects all the history I want to go the original home, where all the greats have fought — that would be something special.

"As far as I know, there have been talks on the management side with Malignaggi and we're just looking at when to do it.

"It would be a good fight for the British public."

Witter respects Malignaggi's ability but insists he will inflict only the second defeat of the Magic Man's career when they go toe to toe.

He added: "Malignaggi's quick, got good movement and is a hard man.

"Americans keep talking about him as their big hope — but I'll beat him."
