Selby opens up ITV PPV by outpointing Diale
Andrew Selby officially launched the era of ITV PPV with a comprehensive ten round decision victory over the decent but outmatched Ardin Diale.
Selby, 111 1/4lbs, has shown enough to suggest that he may be able to progress quickly through the ranks and this WBC International title tilt was his third title fight within just eight professional outings.
Selby - quicker, slicker and smarter than his Flipino opponent - sprang out of the blocks but quickly realised that although Diale, 111lbs, may not match him for talent, he was tough and resolute. Every time Selby's fast hands disorganised his defences, Diale, 32-11-4 (15 KO's), would spit back looping shots. Rather than voluntarily fighting Diale's fight, Selby wisely chose to shorten his combinations and bounce in and out of range.
The 28 year old from Barry directed the one way traffic from the opening bell and the fight quickly became a question of whether he would be able to stop Diale.
He couldn't. There were some impressive bursts but despite a prolonged burst int he ninth, Selby couldn't put a meaningful dent in the 28 year old veteran and cruised to a unanimous decision victory. The scores were identical. 100-90 across the board and Selby improves to 8-0 (5 KO's).
If anybody with influence is reading this, please make the Andrew Selby - Charlie Edwards British title fight. A meaningful fight for a meaningful title which would provide Selby - and Edwards - with a meaningful test.
