Audley or Skelton to fight Sam Peter for WBC title July
Frank Warren has revealed that he has secured a deal to bring Don King's fighter, Samuel Peter over to the O2 arena this July.
In a voluntary defence, the opponent is yet to be decided but it is between Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton.
Audley (22-3, 17ko), who fought and beat Sam in the amateur game, is tipped the favourite to be chosen.
Matt Skelton (21-2, 18ko) has already had one failed attempt at the crown this year against Ruslan Chagaev. In a wide points loss in Germany, brave Matt was simply not good enough to rip away the WBA version of the title from the Uzbekistan native.
He was due to fight Sinan Samil Sam, but that bout is rumoured to be postponed at present which means that Skelton would be in shape to fight, should Harrison decide against the opportunity.
Meanwhile unbeaten Chagev (24-0, 17ko) is due to rematch the giant 7ft tall Nikolay Valuev, the man he beat to claim the title, on the 5th July.
Frank Warren, writing in his Sun column said the fight would take place on July 12 at the O2 Arena.
"I've agreed terms with Don King for WBC heavyweight champ Sam Peter to fight at London's O2 Arena on July 12," wrote Frank Warren.
"In the opposite corner will be either Matt Skelton or Audley Harrison.
"I'm holding talks with all parties over the weekend and will make an announcement on Monday.
"Ironically, Harrison beat Peter in the amateurs and was considered the better talent when they went pro. Watch this space."
