Nathan Clev banging on door of title shot

The boxing mathematician last night added another single digit to his winning record and captured the vacant EBU title in the process, last night on a Frank Warren show at the Wembley arena.

The numbers fanatic will now consider himself amongst the top 10 of the current Light heavyweights in the world in only 19 fights, since his professional debut in July 2005.

His opponent, the Italian Antonio Brancalion (32-7-2) was older and more experienced than the Welshman and it showed in the first round, before 'Clev' found the key punches to unravel the visitor in the 4th round before the fight was stopped by the referee in the 5th.

Whilst it was a pleasing victory, Brancalion had been destroyed in a single round some 8 months earlier by jailbird Jurgen Braehmer who held the EBU title previously.

With time still on Nathan's side (who turns 23 years old the 17th February) it would be wise for him to make more defences before considering a raid on Jean Pascal, Chad Dawson or Tarvoris Cloud.
