Did Tax concerns scupper Mayweather vs Pacquiao

28.07.2010

Industry experts claim that not only does the impending court case involving Roger Mayweather, has an impact on negotiations falling through (that's if they even happened, depending on whom you may believe) but that the mighty tax man may have threatened Floyd.

2010 has been a lucrative year for 'Money' Mayweather, with tens of millions being earned from his two outings against Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley this year to date.

Speculators claim his purse, plus associated promotional monies tip the scales at a whopping $50 million dollars.

As a result of this, a further payday of anything between $40 to $60 million dollars would put him into a spectacular tax bracket.

The clever observers believe that Floyd is not scared to fight Pacquiao. Whilst the Roger situation is an undoubted scenario that would break the fight on it's own, the fact that he could simply fight Pacquiao during the next fiscal year and get to keep the lion's share of the earnings instead of the tax man taking it, surely must be the correct and final verdict on the reasons why this fight has not been made to date.
